Fracking vs. Mining

By Brianna, Bandril, Raymond, and Coyne

Fracking

Fracking is the process of drilling into the ground at high pressure in order to "frack" the shale rocks to emit natural gas inside. It takes 400 tankers to transport enough water to supply the site. It takes 1-8 gallons to complete a fracture job. Approximately 40,000 gallons of chemicals to mix in with the water to do one job.

Mining

Mining is when a group of people go down in a cave and look for fossil fuels. Until 2001 mining was the single most dangerous industry. With 23.5 deaths for every 100,000 workers. Some of the main dangers of being a miner are gas explosions and roof collapse.

Surface Mining

Surface mining is a method of mining used to extract metals and minerals that are near the earths surface. Much more economical than sub surface mining.
