7th Grade ACTS Newsletter

Voice - Mrs. Fennell
Our class has enjoyed learning about woodwind and brass instruments. Next week, we will be learning to count sixteenth notes in different combinations with eighth notes. We will also begin learning new repertoire. Our next test will be on Wednesday, November 2.
Art - Ms. Pridmore
7th grade has been working on linocuts this week. Linocuts are a form of printmaking where the artist carving into a piece of linoleum (using a carving tool) and then rolls ink onto the linoleum and presses it to a piece of paper to make a print. Pictured is Kathryn who is making sure her fingers are protected while carving. Also pictured is art club this week. Denise Waldrep, a professional portrait artist from Greenwood came to speak to art club. She told us all about her career as a scientific illustrator, a portrait artist, and a teacher. She also told us about her college experience that prepared her for her career. We learned how artist market and sell their work and how much practice it takes to be successful.
Strings - Mrs. Reynolds
7th grade strings will be working on sixteenth note rhythms. We will also begin working on "The Final Countdown."
Dance - Mrs. Brewington
7th dance focus: We began picking and choosing the best parts of the duets and placing them into a sequence. This sequence will become our dance for the March performance. Please encourage your child to look at google classroom daily.

Math - Mr. Smith
7th grade math students are finishing chapter 4 on adding and subtraction rational numbers (including negative fractions and decimals). Students will have a test online (Illuminate) on Tuesday next week. Students have also received a take home test for chapters 4 and 5. Students are encouraged to collaborate with their classmates, but may not use a calculator on this test. Students must show their work on this test to receive credit. The take home test will be due after we complete chapter 5 (the first week of November)
Students will start chapter 5 (multiplying and dividing rational numbers and simplifying expressions with properties) on Wednesday.
Science - Mrs. Sexton
We will begin a new unit on Chemistry this week. Students will begin with a look at the periodic table of elements, protons, neutrons, and electrons, as well as ionic and covalent bonding. Students need to bring colored pencils and other artistic materials to class daily. This unit does involve a culminating project called, "Atomic Attire". More information about the project will be sent home in November.
Social Studies - Mr. Creswell
We will be studying about the French Revolution this week.Any student missing work, should have it turned in by Tuesday.
Science - Mrs. Griffin
The students will start the Chemisty Unit this week with a small quiz on Thursday. The students will need to bring their artist materials all week. Please continue to check Google Classroom and webpage for assignments and other information.
Social Studies & ELA - Mrs. Owensby
7th Grade SS
Students will study the French Revolution. They did an awesome job of research and skits to introduce the topic this week.
7th Grade ELA
Students will have a spelling test Tuesday. They will have a new stems list on Monday. We will spend part of the week creating a narrative which includes the awesome writing techniques we have discovered this nine weeks.
