Inspirational Quote
"My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth."
~Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809–April 15, 1865) the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.

St. Paul Pennies for Patients Program Kickoff!
Saint Paul Middle School Students Present Genius Hour
The middle school students at St. Paul have been given an opportunity to participate in what is called “Genius Hour”. Genius Hour is a concept adopted from Google, who found that providing its employees with time to explore things they are interested in exponentially increases workplace productivity, climate, and culture. The middle school students have been working over the last several months to identify areas of interest, conduct research, and create a final product to show how much they have learned. We have been very pleased with the level of engagement and enjoyment that our students have displayed throughout this process.
This night is their chance to show an authentic audience what they have learned and created.
HERE IS THE SCHEDULE:
- Grade 6 - Tuesday - 2/21/2017
- Grade 7 - Thursday - 2/23/2017
- Grade 8 - Wednesday - 2/22/2017
This past Tuesday, St. Paul kicked off our Pennies for Patients Program! Pennies for Patients is a fundraising program that helps fund The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
We are having a penny war! Students are encouraged to bring in their silver and gold to help add to the class totals. Students will be able to put pennies in other class buckets to which will subtract from their total, and add silver to their own class buckets to add to their totals.
All silver, checks, paper money ($1s, $5s, $10s, $20s, $50s and even $100s!!!) and online donations will add to the class totals.
This year we are able to donate online at our LLS school homepage http://events.lls.org/pages/ky/StPaulSchoolLouisville-2017.
There are two ways to donate -
Support a specific student from St. Paul - register on the link above - just click on join your school or join your classroom team to start you own donation page. All online donations will count positively towards your classroom goals.
Make a general donation to St. Paul School
Until February 28, students will be collecting money to help support research and treatments to help save the lives of those affected with blood cancers. Students brought home a small box to help them collect coins and bills from home. Students may also ask for donations from family and friends. Checks can be made out to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Any amount will help out!
This year our goal is to collect $4000 so that we, St. Paul School, can help to make a difference in the lives of those that are suffering with blood borne cancers. The the class that raises the most money will receive a pasta party sponsored by Olive Garden!
Help support St. Paul Pennies for Patients Program by helping your child raise money and save lives!

Catholic Education Foundation for Tuition Assistance
As we begin a new year, I want to encourage each of you to invite more families to join the Catholic school experience than ever before. Last year with your encouragement and with the help of the CEF we were able to achieve record-breaking enrollment. We have not stopped growing and with your help we expect our enrollment to once again grow in 2017. To any family who yearns for a Catholic education for their children but cannot afford it, The Answer is YES!
The 2017-18 FACTs management application is available online at www.ceflou.org. This is the only way to apply for aid this year. The completed application, along with the $25 fee, should be submitted on or before March 15, 2017.
We are sending an instructional flyer to every St. Paul family. Asking for tuition assistance is a very private family decision. Often families who are experiencing difficulty are reluctant to take the steps needed to request assistance but let me assure you if this is the case the answer will be “Yes” to assistance.
For the past two years, every single family who applied to the Catholic Education Foundation for tuition assistance – and demonstrated a financial need – earned an award, 100%! Last year with the help of the CEF, need-based to tuition discounts, archdiocese voucher fund and school choice St. Paul families were awarded $204,256 in assistance!
Instead of talking yourself out of a Catholic education for your children, shouldn’t you consider reaching out to the Catholic Education Foundation and provide a better path for both your children and your family?
- NOW IS THE TIME for more families to join our storied Catholic school community with 106 years of tradition.

Next Monday, February 20th the Women of the parish will host their Annual Hen Party. Over the years the school has helped the ladies by collecting can goods that are given away at the event.
Beginning tomorrow February 14th and going until Monday February 20th we will be collecting can goods in each class. We are asking that each student bring at least one can good or dry good to school. The class with the most items collected with receive a Pizza Party. Over The years we have averaged over 350 can good items and this has been one of the best money makers for the event.
Please help us help the ladies of our parish by donating one can good or more for this very worthy cause. In addition, ladies of the parish, please join the other Hens on Monday for a night of fun and games.
Thanks,
Kevin Brever

Eighth Grade Field Trip to Gattiland's "Water Wow" Course
Our 8th-grade class recently attended a field trip to Gattiland and completed the Water Wow course offered by the educational staff of Mr. Gatti’s. This course, designed by the Louisville Water Company, provided our students with a consumerist view of daily water consumption in our own city. Students learned where our water comes from, how it gets to where it needs to go, and how much water it takes to operate various facilities daily.
Then, students were challenged to create their own mini-cities into which they had to incorporate these facilities, but they were only allotted a certain amount of water for daily use. Thus, students had to use math, logic, and creativity to create the most functional, engaging, and innovative cities that they could with within certain limitations. Here are some pictures of our 8th graders hard at work!

5th and 6th-Grade Boys A Team Took City in Sudden Death!! GO RAIDERS!!!
A Big "Congratulations"!
I'm writing to pass along a big "Congratulations!" to the St. Paul team for their hard fought victory this past Sunday. The team showed a lot of grit and determination for the entire game, through two OT periods. That game was the first time my family and I have attended a championship so we didn't know what to expect - it was so much bigger and exciting than we had imagined. Kudos to the coaches for keeping up the good sportsmanship during a very intense, close game.
I especially wanted to congratulate the kid who made the free throws during the sudden death overtime. We were cheering so loud but he blocked us out and iced the free throws!
I hope they get a bit of recognition at school this week!
Regards,
- Greg Kent

Hen Party
Saint Paul will host its annual HEN PARTY on Monday, February 20, in the gym. Admission is $5. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Play begins at 7:30 p.m. Bring a friend and join us for an evening of fun!
All proceeds from this fundraiser are used to purchase altar bread, wine, candles, vestments, etc., essentials for our worship experience.
The school children will participate in our effort by bringing in canned goods for the garbage can of groceries. One canned good per family would help a great deal.
Thank you.
