Cumberland & Lincoln Prevention Coalition awarded grant to reduce youth marijuana use in RI
The Prevention Coalitions of Cumberland and Lincoln joined ten other communities engaged efforts to reduce underage drinking and youth marijuana use in RI. The RI Strategic Prevention Framework Partnerships for Success (PFS) project is administered by the RI Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. RI was one of sixteen states to receive an award from the United States Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention to fund high need communities to implement evidence based practices, policies and programs to prevent substance abuse.
Over the next four years, Cumberland and Lincoln Prevention Coalition Coordinator Pam Shayer will be assessing the community substance abuse prevention needs and resources, developing a capacity building plan to address any gaps in resources or community readiness and a local strategic plan, while implementing evidence based and best practice interventions based on community needs, and evaluating the impact of our efforts. This will also include the "It Starts With You" statewide media campaign.
The following communities were selected to participate in the Partnership for Success Initiative: Burrillville, Cranston, Cumberland, Foster, Johnston, Lincoln, Little Compton, Newport, New Shoreham, Providence, Scituate and Westerly.
"It Starts with YOU"
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll let this one do the talking. This is our statewide campaign, "It Starts With You". We are reaching out to the community through multiple media spots to showcase the importance of a parent's role in communicating with your child. Parents are the biggest influence in helping their kids make good decisions and helping them remain drug free.
Look for our ads on Channels 10 and 12, RIPTA buses, highway billboards, bus depots and Cinema World, Lincoln Mall, Providence Place and Warwick Cinemas! And remember...It Starts With You!"
