From the Superintendent of Schools

Greetings everyone! Happy Fall! With the temperature finally cooling down, and the leaves starting to change, we are in full swing in all of our schools. After highly attended and very successful Back To School nights, we are happy to share that our schools are striving for excellence in the academics and arts; we truly are a distinction with pride. We have lots going on this month, so please note some of the important dates below. As always, please reach out to me at or call my office at 856.767.8293 x3010 if you need anything.

Atco Elementary School

Atco Elementary is off to a great start of the school year. Kindergarten is learning how to take care of their space in their classroom as well as adjust to a full school day. They have also begun to learn how to write capital letters, pre-literacy skills, and learning how to count to 10. The students celebrated Johnny Appleseed and made applesauce, which was delicious! First grade is learning about citizenship and how to be a good citizen in the classroom. The students read Rainbow Fish and learned what it means to be a good friend. Thank you to all of the parents that came out to our Back to School Night on the 28th! Your partnership will ensure your child’s academic success in the future.

Thomas Richards School

  • Second-grade students became authors as they were immersed in the Writer's Workshop. Authors learned how to improve their beginning, middle and end in order to become better writers. After making revisions to their writing, students were able to share their work with peers.
  • Third-grade students participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activity in which they were challenged to design and build a boat that would float as well as travel across a body of water. Students spent several days preparing their designs in their classrooms, and tested during a culminating Boat Launch with all 3rd grade students in the Cafeteria.
  • During our lunch periods, two classes were awarded the first Principal's Award. This award was given to Ms. Magner's class (2nd-Grade Lunch) and Ms. Schaller's Class (3rd-Grade Lunch) for their exceptional behavior in the cafeteria. Both classes will proudly host the trophy at their table next week. Each class also chose a GoNoodle activity to share with all students during our #FunFriday activity during lunch.
  • Thomas Richards is a 'Bucket-Filling' School! We have started to recognize our Bucket-Fillers of-the-Week each Friday. A winner from Preschool, 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade, as well as a staff member are recognized for their kind and caring actions. Students receive a small reward and our staff member is treated to the Bucket-Filler- of-the-Week parking space!
  • We also recently recognized students who completed their summer work! Students choosing to complete summer assignments took part in a raffle hoping to win several small prizes including stuffed reading buddies and pencils/erasers. Congratulations to Josh and Josh, winners of our Grand Prizes, a Kindle for Reading and an Ozobot Robot for Math.

Waterford Elementary School

Teachers at Waterford Elementary School have had an eventful September. Our opening week was a success as we welcomed our students back to school and introduced our fifth and sixth graders to a new schedule. The students and the teachers worked all of the kinks out and made the first week a success!

Waterford students enjoyed their first Home and School sponsored dance on September 16th. The children were treated to a night of music and fun! Thanks to our home and school parents who worked so hard to make the event enjoyable for all.

On September 22 Waterford Elementary School welcomed our families to Back-to-School Night. Parents had the opportunity to meet their children's teachers and learn about the different subject areas. Our Safety Patrol was available throughout the evening to assist families in getting from one classroom to the next. Thank you to our Safety Patrol for their great work!

Help clean up our town!
