A Note From Mrs. Garrison
I hope your family had a wonderful winter break. We are looking forward to seeing our students tomorrow morning and kicking off the new year!
January is School Board Appreciation month. We send out a big thank you to those who volunteer their time and talents to serve on this Board: Mr. Datren Williams, Mr. Skeeter Hubert, Mr. Scott Moore, Mr. Ray Sanders, Mr. Scott Kidd, Mr. John Husbands, Mr. Dale Inman.
As we come back to school, please remember that only students who live close to the school may be walkers/bikers. Parking near the school and waiting for your child causes traffic congestion in our surrounding neighborhoods. This is unsafe for our students and our neighbors.

GIRLS ON THE RUN (GOTR)
GIRLS ON TE RUN (GOTR) – Last fall we had over thirty 3rd and 4th grade girls participate in the GOTR program. GOTR is a program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind! It is a 10-week program where the girl have developed essential skills to help them establish lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. GOTR inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun experience-base curriculum, which creatively integrates running.
We will doing GOTR again this spring. Registration for our spring 2019 group will start on January 14th and the season will begin the week of February 4th. Please go to www.gotrgreaterhouston.org or email Pam Owens @ powens@conroeiesd.net for more information.
Zoning Information
The District’s Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) has been developing possible scenarios for new attendance boundaries in response to the opening of Suchma Elementary School in the Oak Ridge Feeder zone in the fall of 2019. The ABC released two scenarios in November, and based on public feedback, has slightly revised them.
Scenario 1 was modified by moving of Rayford Crest and Landmark Apartments from Ford Elementary to Houser Elementary. Scenario 2 has been slightly revised to show A76 (the area south of FM 1488 that includes several apartment complexes) from Powell Elementary to Galatas Elementary. To learn more about the zoning process and offer feedback on the two scenarios, go to https://www.conroeisd.net/about/attendance-boundary-process/.
Community Presentation
The ABC presents proposed zoning recommendations. The same presentation is available at three different times.
- January 8 at Irons JH at 7 PM
- January 9 at Irons JH at 12 PM
- January 9 at Knox JH at 7 PM

On Saturday, January 12th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm student work will be available for viewing. The exhibit is held in the 9th Grade Campus of Oak Ridge HS gymnasium. Every school in our district is represented; and the show represents our finest quality work. Only a few pieces from each school are selected. So, this is quite an honor.
The show runs from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. To help with traffic, we would like to ask that Elementary (K-6) view the exhibit from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Jr. High and High School can view the exhibit from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. Cameras are welcome!
