Christmas Party

Just a reminder we are collecting donations for the Little Traverse Humane Society for Christmas. We'd love it if everyone cold donate. Please have the donations in by Wednesday. Folks from the Humane Society will be stopping by in the afternoon of the 19th to pick up our donations and bring some dogs to visit.

Their donation list varies from collars and leashes to things as basic as paper towels, toilet paper, Clorox wipes and pens. Please take a minute to view the complete list below:

We will be having breakfast in the classroom on the morning of the 19th, so be sure your kiddo comes to school hungry.

Camp Wolverine

Please remember the forms for Camp Wolverine are due on Jan. 6. We will be going to Camp on Jan. 22 and 23

Writing

This week for writing students finished up their persuasive letter to Santa. They need to convince him to take them off the "naughty list." Their writing and drawings are hanging in the hallway.

We also started our new unit on persuasive writing. Students read several picture books and had to identify the audience, the issue and the support for the issue.

Finally, we worked on pronouns and relative pronouns. This information was a little tricky and we will be reviewing it.

Reading

Students worked on identifying the problem in solution in the self-selected reading books. We discussed plot and setting in books.

Students also reviewed the text features in a nonfiction article.

Math

This week we continued to work on multiplication strategies for 2-digit numbers with an emphasis on multiplying with regrouping. Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child. Next week’s homework is Lesson 3.5.

Science

This week students applied what they have learned about animal structures by using evidence from parts of the text, and narrating their own video clips. This was a neat project that they presented to showcase the main ideas of the lesson. We also worked on speaking and listening skills with presentations.

Social Studies

This week in social studies we talked about the Civil Rights Movement and tied in to our current social climate. We also wrote a letter to review the chapter. We will be having a test over chapters 6 and 7 on Thursday, Dec. 18. There is a letter in the Friday folder about what students should study. Chapter 7 is short and we just started it on Thursday.

Notepad Sales

We are still selling notepads to raise money for Camp Wolverine. Please consider buying a few for stocking stuffers or grocery lists to help support this fun field trip. There are more order forms in the Friday folders.
