From the desk of Dr. Ricks
We have had a busy week at GES as we wrapped up our 3rd 9 weeks. Thursday was a very successful Pi Day celebration. We ate sweet treats, enjoyed special “3.14” activities in math classes, and shared a common verse, Philippians 3.14, “I press on toward to goal to win the prize...”. But, the thing that struck the deepest chord was the way in which our students embraced our Pi Week/Lenten service opportunity: supporting Two Penny Missions. This organization serves Northeast Louisiana and provides immediate shelter. This project was organized by Gretchen Pettis, our Lower School Religion teacher, and she reported that we collected $215.61 for Two Penny Missions - made up of 3159 coins and 27 bills. Lots of little zip lock bags of coins from generous giving children. Out of this event, two sweet stories emerged: a 2nd grader brought her bag of coins she had been saving, and she wanted to give all that she had to help others. Another student in 3rd grade brought the money that she earned from doing her chores. Our Grace students were so selfless with their giving. These pennies that we often overlook or think of as heavy in our purse or pockets -added up to something valuable. This graciousness and willingness to help others is just one other thing that continues to set our Grace students apart.
We have one week to go before Spring Break. Encourage your children to push through and work hard this week, and then enjoy the break that follows!
Warmly,
Dr. Ricks
