-A Bird's Eye View-
April 15, 2019
Your Tweetcher for the week of 4/8 was.....Amy Bishop
Students (and staff members) created felt birds for their school's Legacy Tree. Mrs. Bishop got students thinking, as she asked them to consider what they want their legacy to be. Each felt bird that was made contained the legacy that a student or staff member wants to leave behind. These birds will be featured on the Legacy Tree at CMS.
Thank you Amy for sharing this great project and pictures with us. You can find the Facebook post here.
Your Tweetcher for the week of 4/15 is......Barb Houk
Barb's write-ups are always well-written, thorough, and highlight the accomplishments of our SkillsUSA students.
Great work, Barb! Thanks for helping us tell the story of the CSD!

**********FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE**********
Hi CSD!
Open Enrollment is right around the corner and is when you can make changes to your insurance policies for our next plan year, which is July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020. You need to think about if you want to make any changes to your health, life, dental, vision, and Aflac insurance polices. You will be able to change plans, add or drop dependents, etc.
As stated in a previous email, dental and vision plans are changing for the new plan period. Due to the changes, you will enroll or waive dental and vision coverage via BenefitSolver, the same online platform you will use to enroll or waive health insurance. That platform will be available April 29th-May 10th.
Like last year, you will then have to meet in person with our Aflac reps and also myself to go over Aflac products and to make any changes to your life insurance policy. I will be ironing out when this will take place and where, but I'm thinking sometime around the 15th-17th of May.
An email will be sent out to all staff with final details shortly. I just wanted to give you a heads up!
PS: Open Enrollment is mandatory for all full-time employees, even those that are not returning to the district for the 19-20 school year.
As always, call or email me if you have any questions!
Thanks!
Emily Brown

*Tell us what you do in the CSD, how long you have been here and why you enjoy being a Cardinal.
I am the 8th grade science teacher and in my second year with the CSD. I taught the 8th grade math and algebra classes last year, but science is really my passion. Being a Cardinal has been an amazing experience for me! This is the smallest district I’ve worked in so I’ve really been able to develop meaningful relationships with my students and found that my voice as a teacher truly matters, which is sometimes hard to get in large schools/districts.
*Tell us a little bit about your family/where you are from.
My husband, Charles, and I moved to Clinton in June 2017 with our then 2 1/2 year old daughter, Tori. With a young daughter, and no family close by, we felt that it was important for Tori to have a relationship with her cousins so we made the decision to move from the mountains of western North Carolina to the sweeping plains of Missouri. We decided on Clinton because my sister and her family live in Warrensburg and we couldn’t have been happier with our decision. Charles and I just celebrated our 19th anniversary and Tori is now 4 years old and finishing her first year at CECC. She loves playing with her cousins in Warrensburg and has been taking swim lessons. I think she’s probably part fish!
*Best vacation you've been on and why?
Anytime we’ve done something in the outdoors. I’ve especially loved some of the backpacking trips we did in the North Carolina mountains. I find a great deal of peace in nature so I love to get out and explore whenever I can.
*Favorite, can't miss television show?
It’s a toss up between "The Big Bang Theory" (hello! Science teacher!) and "Shark Tank".
*Describe yourself in 3 words.
I am passionate, dedicated, and fun-loving.
*What are 3 things people would be surprised to know about you?
*I served in the US Army where I played clarinet in the Army band.
*My first teaching job was at the middle school where country singer, and American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery went. (I was there the year after he was there but four of my colleagues taught him and we had American Idol watch parties.)
*I am a huge fan of fantasy and role-playing games and even met my husband while playing an online role-playing game long before when meeting someone online was considered somewhat normal.
