Below you will find a link to the google form that will be used to collect your child’s encore requests. Please take the time to carefully read and answer the questions in the form related to 7th grade encore choices. This is an integral part of scheduling and must be completed. Please submit the scheduling google form by Friday, March 24th.

NJHS SPONSORED ACTIVITY NIGHT ON MARCH 23RD FROM 6:30 P.M.-8:30 P.M

Dear CHS Middle School Families,


Please see the below information for a fun student event sponsored by the Smart National Junior Honor Society.


Join us for a NIGHT of NEON!


The CHS National Junior Honor Society is hosting a neon-themed activity night on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at CHS. Students are able to purchase a bracelet (as their entry ticket to the event) from 6th hour teachers on Thursday, March 16th through Tuesday, March 21st only. The fee is $5.00 per student which includes the choice of a slice of pizza and a drink or a full size candy bar and a drink. Students interested in attending the event should bring a payment of $5.00 to their 6th hour teacher during the days listed. Bracelets will be distributed during 6th hour on Thursday, March 23, 2023.


The event will included a DJ, concessions, a BEST DRESSED IN NEON contest (winner at each grade level), games in the auxiliary gym, dancing, and more!

Please note: Exact change ($5.00) is encouraged and much appreciated. Students are responsible for timely transportation to and from the event.

Kindness Matters Nominations can be submitted until April 12

The Kindness Matters Award honors and recognizes those individuals and organizations who exhibit kindness and care toward others including:


  • Any student, teacher, secretary, administrator, bus driver, playground supervisor, or any Walled Lake Schools employee
  • Parents, grandparents, or community members
  • A company, store, or an organization


Any or all of the above who: demonstrate kindness on a frequent basis, go out of their way to make others feel better, lead initiatives in their school or community to benefit others, or inspire others to show kindness.


Please submit nominations via the google form through Friday, April 12 and contact Nayal Maktari, principal at Clifford H. Smart Middle School, with questions.

Hello future CHS families,


We look forward to your child joining us at CHS for the upcoming school year! Below you will find a link to a Google Form titled 6th Grade Encore classes that will be used for scheduling purposes. Please take time as a family to carefully discuss the encore options. I will not be asking you to enter any requests in Skyward as I will take care of entering all requests for you.


The only thing you and your child will need to do for scheduling is complete the google form by Friday, March 17th.


Please remember that your child will engage in the middle school experience. While course preferences are important, it is not a guarantee that all top choices will be available. Our goal is for students to experience all of our encores classes during their three years at CHS.

MUSIC CLUB UPDATE

Music Appreciation Club February Update:


Thanks to all the families that came out for the Frank & the Great Ladies of Song concert. We enjoyed learning some fun facts about Frank and learned a little more about his Fan club and the American Songbook. The Concert ended with a montage of Frank's most memorable songs by the fabulous Tony Desare and Capathia Jenkins.


I am collecting photos from any concerts you may have attended for the yearbook. Do send them my way. I will be forwarding them to the folks doing the yearbook. Note, that not all photos forwarded may make it into the yearbook.


Our next Meet is on Sunday, March 12th for the SONDHEIM & BEYOND 3pm concert. We will be meeting at 2:30pm under the Cube sign inside Orchestra Hall for our Club meet. More information and activities for the upcoming concert will be emailed out the week of the concert for Club members.


Soundcard tickets will be available on February 26th. For the best available seating please reserve your tickets as soon as they are available.

CHS HOMEWORK CLUB INFORMATION AND PERMISSION SLIP

Clifford Smart is offering an after school academic opportunity called Homework Club . Homework Club is open to select CHS students and will meet on Thursdays from 3:10-4:00 p.m. starting on Thursday, November 10th

COVID Policy update:

The current COVID-19 policy for the 22-23 school year is as follows:


Students and staff members that test positive are required to stay home for 5 full days from the date of symptom onset, or if asymptomatic from the date of the test. After 5 days have passed and there are no remaining symptoms, individuals may return to normal activities, but must wear a mask through day 10.


Personal or household contacts are not required to quarantine, however it is recommended and encouraged, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask and monitor for symptoms for 10 days.


Symptomatic students/staff will continue to be required to meet one of the following prior to returning to school/work:


· Provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test.

· Provide documentation from a physician indicating a clear alternative diagnosis.

· Exclude from school for minimum of 5 days, mask for 10 days – must be fever free for over 24 hours, with other symptoms improving, prior to returning.


Building administrators and supervisors will continue to notify student families and staff members of possible exposure due to a reported positive case.

The Clifford Smart PTSA is involved and active. We purchase items and sponsor many wonderful projects each year for our students and staff. From the Gap Achievement Program to the Reflections contest and other events in between, we could not provide all of the opportunities or accomplish all of our goals without the generous contributions of time and money from our parent community. Last year, the raised funds were used to completely refinish the floor in the gymnasium – check it out! Please join! You can be involved as much or as little as you want – the choice is yours!


PTSA GOAL ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM (GAP) NEWS


1st Marking period: Citizenship

2nd Marking period: GPA improvement

3rd Marking period: reading completion

4th marking period goal: community service

All students are to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service to qualify for the 4th marking period goal. Students can have accumulated the hours through out the entire year.

PTSA GOAL ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM (GAP)

Have you heard about the GAP Program? This program allows your children to achieve one goal in citizenship, academics, reading and community service during each marking period. Students that complete all four goals during their three years at Smart are honored during their 8th grade year. The goal for each marking period is outlined below:


1st Marking period: Citizenship

2nd Marking period: GPA

3rd Marking period: reading completion

4th marking period goal: community service

**For the first two marking periods, students will automatically obtain their goal if they qualify.


For the last two marking periods, students will need to complete and turn in the forms by below by the dates listed.


Community Service Information:

All students are to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service to qualify for the 4th marking period goal. Students can have accumulated the hours throughout the entire year. Due to Covid-19 and our virtual learning situation, community service hours may look different this year. We will honor hours that involve household chores, assisting younger siblings with online learning/homework, helping around the house or yard, etc.
