February Newsletter
Message From Mrs. T
February
Happy February Winona Families! Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our Math Night, as well as our Workforce Support night! Each student who attended Math Night went home with a baggie of resources to be able to continue to play those math games at home. We have included some of the resources that were shared at our Workforce support night in this newsletter, which include FREE support to anyone with any of the following:
- Resumes
- Searching for jobs that fit your interests and/or skill set
- Reaching out to employers with/for you
- Support with interviews
- Acquiring certifications
- Youth and young adult jobs
There are so many other ways that they can support you. I was so happy to hear that they are willing to come to meet with you here in Loveland, rather than you having to travel to Fort Collins, as well as all of the online classes that are offered for free!! There are advisors that speak both English and Spanish available!
The second half of the year is always full of fun events that we hope you attend!

- Spring Concert - March 28th

Cooler Weather is Here!
We will be moving into our cold weather season. Please make sure that your children are wearing coats, and possibly hats and gloves to school on those cold days. When the snow begins to stick to the ground, we also recommend students have boots for recess or to stay on the blacktop. We do not typically have students change their clothes if they are wet if they have chosen to roll in the snow without the proper gear to keep them dry. Please let our school know if there is a way that we can help with cold-weather gear. One final request would be to make sure that your child's gear has their name labeled on it so that we can return any lost items to the correct owner, and so that you do not have to buy any replacement gear!

Reading Fact for the month!
Do you know that reading can make you kinder?
Researchers at Kingston University in London have found that regular reading makes you kinder and more empathetic. According to these researchers, frequent readers are also more inclined than non-readers to see things from other people’s points of view.” https://thebookbuff.com/mind-blowing-facts-about-reading/

Did you know many federal, state and local funding sources for TSD schools are based on the number of students eligible for free or reduced school meals? When you apply for free and reduced meal services, your school is eligible for additional funding that is important to maintain valuable school programs and services for families.
And, in addition to meal benefits, families who qualify for free or reduced meals are also eligible for other benefits, including reduced or waived school fees, technology support and internet access, as well as assistance with costs for a number of school programs like athletics and before/after school extracurricular activities.
How to Encourage Punctuality
Studies have shown that using praise as a positive reinforcement is an effective strategy for student attendance. However, family participation is also key to good attendance for younger students. Some of the Athlos tips for good attendance include:
Establishing and keeping a schedule; children thrive on routine
Going to bed and waking up earlier
Preparing for the morning the night before by laying out outfits, packing backpacks, and pre-packing lunches
If work schedules conflict, investigate other means of transportation, such as carpooling with other families
If your family consistently struggles with school attendance, professionals suggest tracking the average time you’re late by and adding that time accordingly to your schedule. For example: if you are consistently 15 to 30 minutes late in the morning, set your alarm 15 to 30 minutes earlier. Doing this creates a cushion of extra time for unexpected delays.
