Florence Twp. School District - BACK TO SCHOOL EDITION #5
WE DID IT!
Welcome back to school! Although this was a new way to launch a school year, we made it! It was so wonderful to see our students again, even from the virtual realm. Our first week of school brought its share of challenges and triumphs, but we persevere. As a district, we assure you that we will continue to improve and enhance every day to provide the best learning environment for your child during this unprecedented time!
We want to thank our AMAZING staff for their tireless efforts and resiliency this week! Our teachers have worked extremely hard to develop a connection with each child and launch meaningful instruction under these new circumstances. Through our partnership, school/student/family, this year will be a success! Please stay in touch with your child's teacher by asking questions or if you need clarification on any school day aspect. We will continue to provide updates through our newsletters and social media. Please check school building newsletters for more specific grade level information and keep up to date with our website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. We realize that it may be overwhelming for you as well, but please do not worry. You are doing just fine! Pat yourselves on the back and find a quiet corner this weekend and take a few breaths; you deserve it!
Lastly, hug your child(ren) tight and tell them how proud you are of the extra effort they are putting into this school year. Love, empathy, and compassion always win in the eyes of a child. As always, THANK YOU for your continued patience & support as we navigate this new norm!

IT'S OK TO NOT BE OK!
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Each week this month, the FTSD will provide information and tips on how to prevent suicide from occurring in our community.
Many people may not realize that suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school-aged students, as reported by American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Research shows that four out of five teens who attempted to end their lives have given clear warning signs to those around them which means that in about 80% of cases there is an opportunity to save a child's life.
Where do I begin?
Be a good model and share ways you take care of your own mental health such as eating healthy or exercising, talking to someone and asking for help, and speaking honestly about your emotions.
Be open and honest about your about mental health! Be straightforward and explain it's ok to feel down. Let your children know they can talk to you about their feelings. Be a good listener and leave the door open for future conversations.
Contact us if you need help with your child. The FTSD has a website page dedicated to providing mental health assistance. Check it out at https://www.florence.k12.nj.us/parent-information/mental-health
