Student Safety
Squirt/Splat Gun Free Zone
As we approach warmer weather, we want to remind our Thurston families that items such as nerf guns, airsoft guns, squirt guns, splat guns, or toy guns of any kind are not allowed on campus, including parking lots.
For those of you who are unaware, splat guns are the newest craze and are a combination between a squirt gun and a paintball gun (they shoot water balls).
If your child has access to any of the items mentioned above, we encourage you to please have a conversation with them about the importance of not bringing such items to campus. Bringing toy guns on campus is highly disruptive and potentially dangerous.
COVID-19 Exclusion Changes
Last week, ODE and Springfield Public Schools issued updated guidance on COVID-19 exclusions. "A five-day period of isolation for those infected with COVID-19 will also no longer be recommended for the general population, including people in K-12 education settings. Oregon public health officials believe widespread population immunity due to vaccination and repeated infections means most COVID-19 infections are now likely asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and the five-day isolation period is doing little to reduce transmission."
Students experiencing a fever or vomiting/diarrhea should stay home.
If you are keeping your student home due to illness, please call our attendance line to excuse their absence.
