End of Semester Planning
East Students and Families,
We are quickly approaching the end of the first semester (can you believe it!?) and it's time to share how we wrap up the grading period and get ready for the second half of the school year. Our first semester ends on Friday, January 20, 2023. That is only 26 school days from today.
On the last two days of the semester, Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January 20, 2023 we will run a flexible attendance schedule. Here are the guidelines:
- Students who are passing and are happy with their grades are excused from school on Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January 20.
- Students who are failing are required to attend the classes they are failing and attempt to bring their grades up to passing.
- Students who want to increase their grades may attend and work on the classes they want to earn a higher grade for.
- Students who need to attend to receive special services should attend.
- We will run our regular bell schedule.
- All students will be expected to be in a classroom with a teacher while at school on these days. There will be no hanging out in the coffee shop, flex area, or commons.
- All students who prefer to be at school for these days are welcome and should follow their regular schedule.
- If students need to stay all day because of bus transportation, they will follow their regular schedule and attend all of their classes.
- Students who have their own transportation may come and go from campus to attend only the classes they are failing or want to boost their grades.
- Lunches will be served as normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I am failing only one class, do I still have to come?
Yes, but you only have to attend the class you are failing, so if you drive yourself, or have a ride, you are excused from the classes you are already passing.
What if I ride the bus, do I have to go to all my classes?
Yes, if you are with us for the whole day, we need you to go to all of your regularly scheduled classes, even if you are passing those classes. We won't have any extra supervision or hang-out spaces on these days. All of our teachers will be busy helping students get their makeup work completed.
What if I get a failing grade up to passing, do I have to still come for both days?
No! Once your grades are all up to passing, you are excused for the rest of the time. So if you are only failing a few classes and you get that work done and turned in, you are excused to go home (as long as you have a ride).
What if I am passing all my classes, but I still want to come to school?
Absolutely! We will just ask that you follow your normal schedule and attend all of your classes. But...bring something to work on or a book to read or something to keep you busy while your classmates are trying to get their work made up.
Is lunch just like on a normal day?
Sure is! If you are a 9th or 10th grader you should stay on campus, if you are an 11th or 12th grader, you have open campus lunch. Lunch will be served at normal times and we will still have an A and B lunch.
Do Your Best!
Remember, you and your parents get the missing assignments report from me every Thursday morning. Use that list to double-check what you are missing. If you have something you've turned in on Canvas, but it isn't showing up in your grades, make sure you email your teacher and tell them you've turned in your assignment on Canvas. This is a step that many students are forgetting to do. Canvas and Infinite Campus are meant to work together, but Canvas does not automatically alert your teacher if you turn in an assignment after the due date.
