FIFTH GRADE NEWS FLASH
Please make sure to message me as to whether or not you would like your paper submitted or if you are just turning it in as the culminating assignment for our unit.
Fifth Grade - SMG
Have you looked at Yahoo Finance lately? What an interesting time to be playing the Stock Market Game! Log onto SMG and see how your portfolio is doing. Feel free to make trades if you can communicate with your teammates. If you need your login information, have a parent from the group reach out to me by email, and I can give them your username and password.
Think about this:
What would it look like if you had done a short sale before spring break?
If you were a financial advisor, what would you tell your clients?
How long do think it will take for the market to recover?
What patterns or trends can you notice between this crash and previous stock market crashes?
Stock Market Game Investwrite
This week is a great opportunity for you to work on this. Remember you can do research and cite different articles in your paper. If you are interested in having me submit your paper to Investwrite, I will need the final copy submitted to me in Google Docs by MONDAY, APRIL 20th.
The prompt is below as well as the website where you can see all of the requirements. Remember your paper must be between 300-800 words.
Happy Writing!
Prompt:
What are the three most important things you should research before investing in a stock, a mutual fund, and/or a bond? Using this kind of research, choose two investments that you think are good long-term investments (stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or a combination) and explain why you think each one is a wise choice for you. In your essay, describe something you have learned in The Stock Market Game (maybe your very own Fun Facts!) that you think will help you have a brighter financial future.

Fourth Grade - Robotics
If you could create anything out of your materials, what would it be and why? Draw it out on paper or even through Google Drawings! Use Adobe Spark and create a video or a webpage showing us your ideas! Get creative and inventive!
Third Grade - Genius Hour
What a great opportunity this is for your research project! Log onto Google and continue letting your driving question guide your self directed learning! Remember sometimes one question leads you to another question! This is debatable, so we want to see your passion about this project come through.
Don’t forget to cite the online resources you use in your Google Doc. Remember all of our tips so you don’t plagiarize, and keep an eye out for articles that might have bias.
If you get stuck, feel free to send me your research and I can give you tips!

Kindergarten - Be a Scientist
Remember the Scientific Method and thing of an experiment you could do at home! Write down these words to help guide you.

Need an idea of an experiment you can do at home? Look at this!
Try a Color Symphony! If you don't have the materials below, you can always watch the video!
You will need
A flat tray (like a cookie baking tray)
Food coloring (at least 3 different colors)
Whole milk – low fat milk will not work for this experiment
Liquid soap used for washing dishes
What to do
Carefully pour the milk into the tray so that it just covers the bottom
Add about 6-8 drops of different colored food coloring onto the milk in different spots
Add about 5 drops of the liquid soap onto the drops of food coloring and watch the show!
To clean up, simply pour the colored milk down the drain. (don’t drink it!)
How does it work?
So you know where the color comes from, but why milk and liquid soap? The main job of dish soap is to go after fat and break it down. Usually the fat is on dishes from the food we eat, but fat is also in whole milk. When you drop the liquid soap onto the tray, it tries to break down the fat in the milk. While it was doing that, it caused the colors to scatter and mix creating a very colorful display. Have fun!
MAKE IT AN EXPERIMENT
The project above is a DEMONSTRATION. To make it a true experiment, you can try to answer these questions:
1. What liquid dish soap works the best?
2. Does the shape of the tray affect the reaction?
