We are excited to introduce you to our new district-wide logo that serves as a representation for our schools. The logo is a product of a year-long effort by our communications department and public relations internship class at Portage High School. Look for this logo on our social media pages, website, and publications.

Portage Township Schools communicates with families in a variety of ways. Here is how you can make sure you are receiving all of the information you need from us.

Our SchoolMessenger communications system is a dynamic program that allows us to contact you via phone, email, or text message. Our schools use this system as an easy way to communicate important information to all families.

SchoolMessenger accesses your information through PowerSchool, so it is very important that all of your contact information, including phone number and email address, are accurate. Contact your child's school if you need to update your information.

You can easily set your preferences through SchoolMessenger so that you are receiving information the way you want it. Follow the directions below to download the SchoolMessenger app, create an account, and make adjustments to your preferences. (These preferences only apply to non-emergency calls. In the event of an emergency, all families will receive calls and emails regardless of your set preferences.)

PowerSchool Parent Portal

We strongly encourage our parents to use the PowerSchool Parent Portal, which contains important information regarding your child's grades, attendance, and more. Contact your child's school if you need your username and password. (You can also access this by downloading the PowerSchool Parent Portal app.)

Follow us on Social Media

If you are on social media, follow our Portage Township Schools Facebook and Twitter pages. Many of our schools, departments, clubs, and groups manage their own social media pages, and we encourage you to follow them when available.

We can all play a role in the safety of our students and staff. When visitors enter any of our schools or service buildings, we ask that you follow the procedures listed in the video below. Remember:

1. Enter the building through the main entrance.

2. Press the buzzer and state your name and reason for your visit.

3. Present your state-issued ID at the front desk.

4. Wear your visitor badge at all times.

5. Check out at the front desk when leaving the building.

During these first days of school, we have been receiving feedback from our families and investigating concerns regarding Versatrans E-Link. Our transportation and technology departments have been in contact with Versatrans to develop a solution.

In order to best address the feedback we have received, we will be conducting an update this evening. You will not have access to Versatrans during the update.

Beginning Saturday morning, you will be able to log in to your account. As a result of this update, your password will be reset. You will log in using your child's school ID and birthdate in all numeric digits.

In addition to Versatrans E-Link, the website is also available to our families. This site will allow you to track your child's bus in real time in the morning and after school. Visit our website at for Here Comes the Bus and Versatrans login information.

We thank you for your continued patience as our transportation staff and bus drivers navigate the current and upcoming construction throughout Portage. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to ensure the safe transport of all of our students.

If you have any questions following this update to Versatrans E-Link, please email us at

Back to School Night

Our families and staff celebrated the beginning of the school year with Back to School Night. Each of our elementary and middle schools invited parents to come in to meet the staff, tour the building, and enjoy time with each other. More photos of the Back to School Nights can be found on the PTS Facebook Page.

Promoting a love of reading

Anonymous donors have been providing our elementary students with books this school year. Thanks to their generosity, classrooms throughout our district are receiving a free book for each student in the class each month. This month, Ms. Meiss's class at Saylor Elementary School received "If You Give a Mouse a Brownie" by Laura Numeroff. The students are enjoying their new books!

The Fegely Family receives a new slogan

We love Fegely Middle School's new school slogan! The phrase "A home with four walls and tomorrow inside" was developed by Fegely student Ivan Luna. Last year, Mrs. Helton studied marketing and business strategies with her students and helped them develop a slogan for Fegely Middle School. Congratulations to Ivan for developing the winning slogan, which was printed on banners that hang throughout the school building.
