A Book for Each Bear
For the sixth year, Madison Elementary is excited to participate in A book for each Bear Program! If you are new to Madison, this is a program brought to us by our wonderful PTA. They provide each family with the same chapter book and a schedule of reading (it's about 10-15 minutes a night). The idea is to build a strong community of readers by reading together as a family and also have a lot of great discussions at school about the book. Stay tuned for more information; a letter with a full explanation will be coming home soon.
Here is the reading schedule for next week:
Monday, October 5th Chapters I and II
Tuesday, October 6th Chapter III
Wednesday, October 7th Chapters IV and V
Thursday, October 8th Chapters VI and VII and VIII
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: If my child can already read, shouldn’t they be the ones reading to the family?
A: For this program, it is our goal for a parent to read the book to their children even if your children can already read. Studies show that reading to kids of all ages helps their comprehension. Also, when you read to them you are modeling good reading!
Q: Do we need to turn the book in at the end?
A: No, PTA has provided each family with one book and it's yours to keep!
Q: What if our schedule doesn't allow us to read one night?
A: You can also read the chapter (from the day before) in the morning before your kids go to school. Also, if you get behind, you can catch up on the weekends. The kids love to know what's going on in the book so that they can answer the daily trivia question and be an active part of discussions. Therefore, even if you get behind, keep reading:)

Counselor and Social Worker Corner
Hi families,
We wanted to make sure all of our families know about some of the awesome resources in our area! Please contact Mrs. Hodson if you would like more information or to utilize any of these resources.
Joy Closet-
This is a low-cost thrift store in Gardner and they have generously provided us with vouchers for FREE clothing, shoes, linens, books, and small household items. Each voucher is good for 20 items per household.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace-
This is an organization of amazing volunteers in Gardner who build, assemble, and deliver top-notch bunk beds and new bedding to children and families in need.
BackSnacks-
Harvesters’ BackSnack program provides a weekly sack filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend throughout the school year. For families who have signed up, Mrs. Hodson will deliver these to students at the end of the day on Fridays, putting them straight in their backpacks. We will start this in October so please sign up by emailing Mrs. Hodson at hodsonj@usd21.com.
