News from the Counselors
It's hard to believe it's October! The school year is in full swing! The first round of MAP testing is completed, and now it's time for us to get into classrooms for guidance lessons! We are looking forward to working with your children in the classrooms. By the end of the month, we will have seen all students and introduced ourselves and how we can help. For a description of our lesson, please see below.
Below, you will find a link to our Parent Needs Assessment. This needs assessment will be used by us and our Youth Service Center Coordinator, Ms. Stephanie Watson, to help determine which programs and services to offer you and your children. Please take a moment to fill this out to provide us with this helpful information.

October Classroom Guidance
Topic: Who are your school counselors and how can they help me?
Learning Target: I can identify who my school counselors are and how can they help me?
Lesson: We are start the lesson by sharing with the students a little about us and who we are. Students sometimes share very personal information with us so we want them to know a little about us. We then discuss the ways we work with and help students, the meaning of confidentiality, and what we would need to break confidentiality for. Then we have students complete a needs assessment to get a clear understanding of how we can support them.
Application: Ask your child to name both of the school counselors and see if they can tell you how we can help them at school!
ASCA (American School Counselor Association) Mindset and Behaviors: Mindset Standard #3 - Encourage a sense of belonging in the school environment. Behavior Standard - Social Skills Standard #3 - Create relationships with adults that support success.
