Read Across America at Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center
At Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center, students observed Read Across America Week in various ways, especially by celebrating the stories of Dr. Seuss.
They began the week with Oh, The Places You’ll Go! and talked about the college and career readiness skills needed to reach future goals and occupations. Students dressed up for a college and career parade by wearing a favorite college T-shirt or outfits that represented some of their career goals of becoming a fireman, nurse, construction worker, or chef. Family members also visited throughout the week as guest readers. Students wore crazy socks to illustrate Fox in Socks and mixed up clothing for Wacky Wednesday.
In addition, the PTO sponsored a Seussology Assembly where every student received a Dr. Seuss hat. To quote Dr. Seuss, "The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the more places you'll go."
And so it goes...
Grandparent's Day at Raritan Valley School
On March 26th Raritan Valley celebrated their annual Grandparent’s Day. Grandparents from as far away as Canada came to visit the school and see their grandchildren. Third grade students performed for them by singing and playing recorders. The Raritan Valley PTO did a fantastic job of decorating the gymnasium and providing food and refreshments for our special guests.
Hazlet's AVID Program goes to Brooklyn
On March 20th, students from the AVID programs at Raritan High School and Hazlet Middle School attended the 2nd Annual AVID Day: A College and Career Seminar with the Brooklyn Nets. Students traveled to New York and heard from Barclay Center and Brooklyn Nets employees working in event planning, informational technology, community relations, and human resources. Each speaker shared an inspirational story of perserverance and success, detailing their pathway from college to career. Students asked questions of the panel and then had an opportunity to meet with college admissions representatives from approximately twenty-five colleges and universities during an on-site college fair offered only to AVID students. Many students were treated to additional fan experiences specially arranged by the Nets for their AVID visitors. Several of our students were extended the opportunity to shoot a foul throw on the court, high five players exiting the dressing room, and be on the court during the playing of the National Anthem. The event concluded with a triple-overtime win for the Nets over the Milwaukee Bucks.
