A Note from your Principal

Happy Friday everyone! As we approach the beginning of the strangest school year ever for all of us, I encourage you to enjoy and savor these final days of summer. I plan to take my own advice this weekend, as our daughter is coming home for only the second time since March. And though we'll be missing the middle one, 4 out of 5 Lackeys isn't bad as we celebrate the recent birthday of our youngest. Life is good!

With tax free weekend upon us, some parents are asking about school supplies. Because Parkway is committed to making sure every child has what he or she needs to support learning, we have just confirmed that the standard supply kits featured on the district website will be distributed to every K-8 student, along with essential curriculum materials. Details regarding on-line payment for your school supplies or making additional donations for families who have been hit especially hard during this time are also featured there. If it's helpful to know, we have heard that the Crayola markers are on back order. :)

Specific details about supply pick-up and meet-and-greet events will be shared in next week's newsletter. Plans are underway! Have a wonderful weekend!

Kindergarten Screening

Our teachers can't wait to meet our youngest Dragons! Screenings take place virtually on August 10th and 11th. You should have received a direct link to the screening earlier today. Please contact Danny Moore, Assistant Principal, at with questions.

Our wonderful McKelvey PTO will be placing yard signs at the homes of our new kindergarten students to welcome them to our school. If you prefer to opt out for any reason, please email so we can take your home off of the list. We are super excited to welcome all of our newest class of McKelvey Dragons!!!

Chromebook distribution

Mark your calendar! Chromebook distribution begins next weekend and will be organized through our high school feeder patterns. McKelvey students will pick up or exchange devices at North High School the following dates and times:

  • Elementary families can pick up Chromebooks on August 15 from 10 am - 4 pm or August 17, 19 or 21 from Noon - 6 pm.

  • Middle and high school families can pick up Chromebooks on August 16 from 10 am - 4 pm or August 18, 20 or 21 from Noon - 6 pm.

  • Parents with children at multiple levels can pick up devices on any of the available dates.

  • When you arrive at pickup, please have a sign in your car windshield with the student’s name, school, and grade level.

  • If your child already has a Chromebook that is in need of repair, they may come to the appropriate distribution site to swap it for a new device.

  • If you indicated that your child needed reliable access to the internet, a hotspot will be provided during the distribution schedule above.

Device Insurance: Parents of students in grades 3-11 will be asked to opt-in or out of device insurance.

New Office Staff Welcome!

In addition to our new Principal and Assistant Principals, we have new "front line" staff this year as well! Please welcome:

Ginger Luckett

Principal's Secretary, McKelvey Elementary

Hello Fellow Dragons! I am so happy to be a new part of the McKelvey Family. I will be in the front office to greet you as you come in. I am so excited to meet all of the staff and families, but especially the students. I have worked in a school office for over 15 years and I love being in an elementary building. I am originally from this area but on the Illinois side. I have just recently moved back after being in Colorado Springs, CO for the past 4 1/2 years. My most exciting news that I would like to share with you all is that I am going to be a grandma for the first time in November!!! I am looking forward to a very interesting but joyful year!

Donna Carroll

Principal's Secretary, McKelvey Primary

Hi, everyone! I'm excited to be a part of the new McKelvey team! I will be working out of the new Primary building once it is completed and we are able to get inside. I'm coming to McKelvey from a small school in Manchester, Missouri where I began as the School Secretary and after 4 years progressed to Administrative Assistant, or Principal's Secretary. I have been married for almost 28 years to my husband Brian, and we have two lovely daughters - Jennifer (age 24 and a Graphic Designer with a BFA from Maryville University, working for a company in Overland) and Emily (age 21 and starting her Senior year at the University of Colorado-Boulder, studying Astrophysics/Astronomy). I cannot wait to meet our McKelvey families in person - hopefully soon!

Linda Esser

School Secretary, McKelvey Elementary

Greetings Dragon Family! I am extremely excited to be here and can't wait to meet and get to know each and every one of you! I come to McKelvey from the corporate world, where I have worked in Human Resources for the past 25+ years. This will be my first time ever working in a school setting, so please be patient as I learn the ropes! I live in Chesterfield with my daughter Rachel, who will be a Senior in HS this year!
