TCS to Honor Employees at Annual Apple Awards on Dec. 2
This Marks the Eighth Year for the Event
The nominees are in for the 2019 Apple Awards, the Tuscaloosa City Schools celebration of excellence in education. Sixty-four individuals have been named to represent their school in the system-level competition in one of three recognition programs: Alabama Teacher of the Year, Technology Innovation Awards and Support Employee of the Year.

Arcadia Elementary School: Dana Ortiz (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Sarah Gunter (Technology Innovation Award), and Jamarcus D. Wells (Support Employee of Year); Central Elementary School: Amy Duncan Winstead (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Michelle Scott (Technology Innovation Award), and Maria Fernandez (Support Employee of Year); Central High School: Jamesia Lewis Armistead (Alabama Teacher of the Year); John Hamilton (Technology Innovation Award), and Trina Yolanda Crockett-Tucker (Support Employee of Year); Eastwood Middle School: Jasmine Jenkins (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Heather Overstreet (Technology Innovation Award), and Sherre McKelvey (Support Employee of Year); Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School: Deborah Watford Rox (Alabama Teacher of the Year), and Cyrinthia Burrell (Technology Innovation Award), Vernon John Strode (Support Employee of Year); Northridge Middle School: Britton Tyler Cherry (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Julie D. Rodriguez (Support Employee of Year); Southview Elementary School: Misty Evans (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Irene Harrell (Technology Innovation Award), and D'Juanna Cook (Support Employee of Year). STARS Academy/Success Prep: Mervil E. Tinker (Alabama Teacher of the Year), DeAngelo L. Hunter (Technology Innovation Award), and Mittie B. Robertson (Support Employee of Year); The Alberta School of Performing Arts: Rosin Paige Spencer (Alabama Teacher of the Year); Sandra Wimbs (Support Employee of Year), and Hannah Watts (Technology Innovation Award); Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy: Randy Latner (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Demetrius P. Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools-Middle: Stephanie L. Thomas (Alabama Teacher of the Year); Yolanda L. Stockdale (Technology Innovation Award), and Jon Detrujillo (Support Employee of Year); University Place Elementary School: Rene M. Bailey (Alabama Teacher of the Year) Danielle C. Eppes (Support Employee of Year), and NaTresa B. Crawford (Technology Innovation Award); Verner Elementary School: Gina Sevedge (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Felecia Kell Simmons (Technology Innovation Award), and Brittany S. Tunnell (Support Employee of Year); Westlawn Middle School: Michaela Kling (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Sherry Robertson (Support Employee of Year), and Keiosha Rochelle Quarles (Technology Innovation Award); Woodland Forrest Elementary School: Katherine Steadman (Alabama Teacher of the Year), Shanda L. Hart (Technology Innovation Award), and Tara Jackson (Support Employee of Year). Representing the Transportation Department is Mikey Tolliver and Javaris “Jay” Peterson will represent the Central Support Team Office in the Support Employee of the Year categories.
System level winners will be recognized at the eighth annual Apple Awards, to be held Monday, December 2 at the historic Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. The event is sponsored, in part, by the Professional Educators of Tuscaloosa, Education Support Professionals and Tuscaloosa Education Foundation.
