THIS TWOS-DAY!!!
8th Grade Parents
It is that exciting time of the year when we begin to schedule our 8th graders for high school. Starting next week (February 22nd, 23rd and 24th) 8th grade students will be working with staff during their U.S. History class to select their 9th grade schedules.
Please see the buttons below to see the information that will be shared with your students. These items will also be presented during the scheduling meetings with students.
When scheduling in the classroom, students will put their schedule directly into Powerschool and will also complete the course selection sheet to match what was entered into Powerschool. We are asking students to take that form home and have you sign it so they can return it the next day and give it to their first period teacher. If you should have a question, please use this link and it will bring you to a scheduling question form: Scheduling Question Form
Please remember that all schedules, even if it is already entered into Powerschool, can be changed. If you or your child desire a class change, please reach out to the school counseling department to request that change.
Lastly, completing the 9th grade schedule is a relatively simple endeavor. While there are some choices, many classes at this level are still required. For example, students must take math, language arts, science, social studies, fine art, technology education and a PE class. That leaves only 1 elective which is often a foreign language class. So while there are some choices, they are limited in 9th grade.
We hope that this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Edmentum/Exact Path Update
We have partnered with Edmentum again this year utilizing Exact Path and their
Academic Coaches to monitor, guide and support your students in closing learning gaps
and increasing their growth in Math, Reading and/or Language Arts. Parents of
students who were recommended for the program have received an email and phone
call from Exact Path (Edmentum) Academic Coaches and are asked to complete an info
session in order for your student to start using the program. You can schedule this
session by emailing the Academic Coaches ExactPathTutoring@CCPS.org.
Mask ‘Off Ramps’
There has been a lot of discussion about 'off ramps' for masking in Maryland schools but not a lot of explanation about what that means. To be clear, the Maryland State Board of Education (MSDE) passed regulations that give school systems three possible routes to make masks optional rather than mandatory:
At least 80% of the eligible county population is fully vaccinated, as determined by the Maryland Department of Health;
At least 80% of eligible students and staff in an individual school are fully vaccinated;
The county has sustained 14 consecutive days of moderate or low transmission rates of coronavirus cases, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of today, neither the Caroline school district or any individual Caroline school have met any of these requirements. We'll continue to monitor progress and hopefully, we'll be able to take an 'off-ramp' soon.
