WELCOME NURSE VICKIE COCKRELL
My name is Vickie Cockrell. I have been working as a nurse for 12-13 years. Prior to becoming a nurse I worked in a school for about 2 years as a medical assistant. I love to sing, read and write. I have two children of my own and three grandchildren. My hope is to serve the students at Boone with great love and compassion as I would my own. Thank you for me as a part of the team.

ILLINOIS ASSESSMENT OF READINESS (IAR)...Spring 2019
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will be administering the IAR this Spring. Successful implementation of
IAR is important for the district because the test results will account for a significant percentage of each school’s ISBE funding for school year 2018-19.
The testing window for third through eighth grade students is scheduled for March 11 - April 12, 2019.
As we continue to receive information regarding this assessment, we will share it with you and your students.
BECOME A BOONE VOLUNTEER
Interested in volunteering at Boone? Here's a link to the process for becoming approved by CPS.
Boone Volunteer Mr. Joe Romeo has suggested here some further things to consider if you want to become a volunteer:
- If you want to come in regularly, it would be important, of course to know when you are available. It would be helpful to have the same time available every day, or the same days with consistent times each week.
- If you convey your interests and availability, you can be connected with teachers who have a need that corresponds to your interests.
- It would be helpful to think about what skills you have. If you are patient and enjoy spending time with kids, you can probably be helpful. If you have special skills, such as helping kids learning to read, or learn basic math, your presence might be very useful. It is possible that a teacher could use your help with one student, or with a small group, even if it is just for a relatively short time. It might help, a beginning writer, for example, to have someone listen to them or read a story they have written.
- Once you have begun, you might find that you enjoy working with a small group, or that you like working with just one student at a time, or that you like to help kids who are having a hard time, or ones who need an extra challenge.
- It would be good to talk to the teacher(s) you are helping as the year progresses to share what you have noticed and to talk about what you found difficult or especially fun.
- Most important, have a good time!
BOONE DAY OF CARE
A Huge Thank You goes to Ms. Plaza and the Boone Cares Club for the wonderful work they did at the Boone Day of Care on Saturday February 16. Teachers, students, and community members came to Boone to clean and decorate for the 100th Day of School Celebration. Thanks again to all of the people that helped make this day such a success!
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS
