From Mr. Clemente

Dear Winter Park Band families,

It is with a different tone that I sincerely hope that you are well when reading this. This week's storm brought so much to deal with for our community, and I know that many of our families were left dealing with cleanup. Hopefully everyone has their power restored! I know at least my neighbors across the street still have not gotten theirs back as of Sunday morning.

As I type this, we still are unsure of concrete dates for rescheduled events from last week's Homecoming activities. As soon as I hear official dates from our administration, I will pass that information along to everyone.

This week will prove to be a super short one with no classes on Monday and a scheduled day off on Friday. Please pay special attention to the itinerary for Thursday's marching band rehearsal and away football game. Students will need to bring their clothes for wearing under their marching band uniform with them to school in order to change into them after our short rehearsal, during dinner time, before we leave for the game.

Saturday at 10:00 AM, Jazz Ensemble I will perform downtown at the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival. We hope you can make it out so we have a big audience to play for!

Our fundraiser is off to a great start! This fundraiser is called Instaraise and is a 100% online donation campaign. Currently, we have over $5,000.00 raised for the Band. It's a great start, but we have a long way to go to reach our $30,000.00 goal! Let's get out there and raise money for our trip!

LAST CHANCE: Individual photos taken the other week for our annual collage photo are now available to order. Please see the image below for both the link and gallery code to view and order your student's photos. The ordering window will close on Sunday, 10/2.

Concert Uniform Accessories orders deadline has been extended and are now due by this coming Wednesday, 10/5. Please see below for details. All items may be found on SchoolPay.

Finally, we will be making one more order for Extra 2022 Show Shirts. The item will also come available on SchoolPay Monday, 9/19 and have also been extended until Wednesday, 10/5.

Let's make it a great week everyone, and I can't wait to see everyone on Tuesday!

Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson

Hi Band! Well, that was a Homecoming Week for the record books .. a horrible storm instead of a parade and yard and water clean up and power outages instead of a football game! We'll listen for Homecoming rescheduling plans from here. Hoping that all of our Band Family came through the storm safely and are able to get things back together to get back to school and work as soon as we can ... quite a stressful week for sure.

Looking forward to this week's activities ... we've got a THURSDAY football game this week and are still in need of four more chaperones. Please check your schedule, parents, and see if you can lend a hand: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football

And if you’re a senior parent who can help out with Senior Night (Friday, November 4th), please email me (dana@keepsakefloral.com) your ability to help .. we’ll be planning a meeting for those plans in the next week.

Reach out to any of our board members with any other questions … http://www.winterparkhsband.com/band-boosters.html

Have a great week, Wildcats! See you at Thursday’s game!

InstaRaise Fundraiser Ongoing

Hello Band Families!

Our InstaRaise fundraiser kicked off last week! As of writing this newsletter, we have raised $5,276.00 for the Band Program. What a great start! Your child can keep entering contacts into their contact list. This will send out an email to those potential supporters asking them for a donation. Supporters have the option as to how much they wish to contribute. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be split 50/50 between the band and the student receiving the donation. The fundraiser will be open from Sept 26 - October 7th. You can go to https://www.instaraise.com/winterparkhs/band to check on your child’s donations. Be sure to send a thank you to those that donate! Let’s get the word out and raise as much as we can to help get the musicians to New York! As always, if you have any question, feel free to email Ribaric.family@gmail.com.

Concert Uniform Accessories Order - Extended to this Wed., 10/4

With our Fall Concert approaching on October, the Band will be placing a bulk order of Concert Uniform Accessories. As explained on the Uniform Accessory Information sheet from registration night, students are responsible for providing all parts of the concert uniform that are not either the tuxedo jacket and pants or concert dress, which are owned by the school and lent to students each year. To make obtaining those accessories easy for our families, the Band program will make a bulk order next week through our supplier. You are not required to use our supplier; however, they will most likely give you the best deal and there are no shipping costs.

To complete the Concert Tuxedo:

  • Black tuxedo shirt - $15.00
  • Black bow tie - $4.00
  • Black cummerbund - $8.00
  • Package of all three (shirt, tie, cummerbund) - $25.00

You will also need black dress shoes (completely black dress shoes, not your marching band shoes) and black dress socks. Shoes and socks are provided by the student.

To complete the Concert Dress:

  • Faux pearl earrings – pierced ears - $6.00
  • Faux pearl earrings – non-pierced ears - $7.00
  • Faux pearl necklace - $10.00

You will also need closed-toe black dress shoes. Most choose to wear a simple black flat with the dress, but you may also choose to wear a short heel.

Items will appear on SchoolPay Monday, 9/19 and be available until Wednesday, 10/4. The order must be placed by 9/29 in order to be here in time for our performance. Keep in mind, students who are wearing a tuxedo have already been sized for their black tuxedo shirt when they were fitted earlier in the school year. With the switch to wearing black tuxedo shirts this year, all returning students wearing tuxedos must purchase a shirt for this school year.

If you have any questions, please email Mr. Clemente and our Uniform Chair, Amanda Schaefer.

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement

We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.

Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.

In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.

Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:

    • Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
    • Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
    • Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
    • Replace wheel bearings on front axle
    • Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
    • Replacing or repairing the small trailer
    • And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.

Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.

Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
