SMS Jag E-News
January 10, 2021

Hey Jags,
It was awesome to have students back in our classrooms this week! The great thing about a new year is that it gives us all an opportunity to have a fresh start. I hope that you and your families had a safe and enjoyable winter break and that each of you are as excited about this semester as we are.
Above you will see a picture of our new wall wrap that is perfectly located outside the Student Center and our 8th grade hallway. Each of the words represents what it means to be a Jaguar and it is an awesome visual reminder as we start 2021. Thanks again to our awesome PTO!
I also want to give a shout out to our Math Contest Team for receiving 1st place in the the Mathleague Qualifying Round Contest over winter break. They competed with 15 schools and 170 students from Fort Bend ISD, Houston ISD, Katy ISD, Pearland ISD, and other districts. The team brought home the sweepstakes trophy is represent by Alex Sun, Kevin Hu, Aaron Fan and Eric Zang. Wey to go Jags!
We also want to recognize our basketball teams who are beginning their season! Come out and support our Jags as they start their new season! We are Sartartia Strong!
With Jag Pride,
Cholly Oglesby
Principal

Support Saving Student Work
As Fort Bend ISD students have increased their use of digital platforms, it has become increasingly important that students save and back up their work as a best practice. This best practice is critical to avoid data loss in instances of student schedule changes. The District recommends two methods for students to save and back-up their work: Schoology Portfolios and Microsoft OneDrive. This document below will provide information on how to use the Schoology Portfolio and Microsoft OneDrive to save student work.

Jaguar Athletics
The FBISD Athletics Department and District campus athletics coordinators continue working to provide a safe environment for our student athletes this school year. In preparation for successful basketball, track, tennis and soccer seasons, parents are asked to ensure that their students’ Pre-Participation Physical Exam form and Rank One electronic forms are submitted to their campus head coach by the dates listed below in order to be eligible to participate in the first day of tryouts. Visit the FBISD Athletics webpage to learn more about the District’s health and safety protocols. Be sure to check out the Boys' & Girls' Athletics Newsletters for the most current information about games, tickets, tryouts, and character education videos.

Library Schedule (Week of January 11)
All students are given the opportunity to check out books from the Sartartia library. ELA teachers follow a set library schedule. Face-to-face and virtual students alternate library weeks. This allows time for library staff to prepare books for distribution. This week is library week for face-to-face students. Books will be delivered to ELA classrooms. Next week (Jan. 19-22) online students can place holds on their library books.
The next curbside library book pick-up days for virtual students: Thursday 1/21 from 2:30-3:30 and Friday 1/22 from 12:30-1:30. You are welcome to pick your student’s books up either day. If your student places books on hold you will receive a confirmation email as a reminder of pick-up times.
Go to the Library Schoology Course for great virtual library programming!
