A copyright is the collection of rights granted to the author of a piece of work, for example a movie, book, song or software.
Some Types of Licences
Public Domain
The work is not protected by copyright law because it:
Expired
Was created using public money
Or the creator donated the work into the public domain
Freeware
Copyrighted work that you can use, copy or give away for free.
Example: iTunes is free for everyone, there is no upgrade.Shareware
Similar to freeware but if you want permanent and full use you have to pay for it. These types of software usually do offer a free trial to allow users to try out their product.
Example: Spotify

May be used by the purchaser according to the exact details specified in the license agreement.
Example: A movie
Open Source
Software that includes the source code so it can be improved upon.
Example: Google Chrome
