Balclutha Primary School - T3 Wk 1
Newsletter 30 July 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora e te Whānau,
Welcome to term 3,
I hope you all had a chance for some relaxation, rest and recreation over the term break. With our busy schedule and a significant amount of illness last term, we were all very ready for a break.
It has been wonderful to have the students back on site this week, happy and ready to learn. We have welcomed several new students into our BPS whānau, and it has been great to see them settle so quickly.
Term 3 is another busy one with a range of exciting things happening in and out of the classroom. This week, classes have started training for our school cross country that is coming up in week 3, and next week we welcome Pip and Harold from the Life Education Trust to our school. Pip and Harold's visit is often a highlight for many of our students.
Later in the term we have school speeches, the ski trip and our scientists visiting. There is a draft term calendar attached. Things are always being added, so please keep an eye on our school newsletter, the website and the school app for upcoming events.
A huge thank you to everyone who returned the survey on our Health curriculum. It is important that our teaching and learning programmes meet the needs of the students, and input from our whānau really helps us to identify what this is. All forms returned by today will go in the draw for a box of chocolates that will be drawn at next week's assembly. We are working on a parent information evening around the health curriculum. More information will come out about this in the next couple of weeks.
Have a great weekend,
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave

BPS Netball
Junior netball for 2021 has come to a close after another enjoyable season for all the Balclutha netball players who participated. The season ended with a fun dress up day on the last weekend of the term with some great costumes seen across the 6 teams – cheerleaders, grannies and cowgirls included!
A big well done to the two Year 7/8 teams with the Balclutha A team going through the season unbeaten to win the Section 1 grade and the Balclutha B team taking out Section 2.
Congratulation also to the Year 7 & 8 girls who were selected for the South Otago Development teams and will continue their netball season at two tournaments.
Balclutha Primary Netball prizegiving will be held on 12th August at 5:30pm in the school hall. Can all players please bring their uniforms to prize giving for return to Carleigh or Stacey. We look forward to seeing you all there
Room 1 has had a great first week back settling into routines. We have welcomed 3 new students to our class this week! We had fun in the sunshine on Thursday having a game of ‘Rob the Nest’.

Room 2
This week Room 2 has been excited to welcome four new students who have moved up from Room 1. James, Brooklyn, Amalaini and Braxton have settled in straight away and we are lucky to have them join our class.
Mrs Judson brought in a huge cake to share for her birthday - what better way to talk about fractions than to cut up a cake? Happy birthday Mrs Judson!
Room 3 are enjoying learning about the Olympics! We are designing a playing top for Japan to wear when they compete in the games.
Room 5 Maths group solving a tricky problem!
Room 6 have been writing about what they did during their holidays...
Year 6 children attended Clued Up for Kids on Wednesday at the Rec Centre. The children learnt about a range of situations including bike safety, gun safety and search and rescue.
The year 7 children in Room 12 began food technology this week. They made fruit kebabs.
The Year 8 students took part in the NZ census at school. Students had to measure their wrists, their thumb circumference, school bag weight, height, how long they could balance on one leg and then answer a series of questions about what they think about the future.
