Dec. 15: Board to Name New Superintendent
The District 30 Board of Education has completed its search for our new Superintendent of Schools and will announce the selected candidate at the next Board meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 15 at Maple School.
The search launched after Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley announced his June 30, 2023 retirement to the Board last February; In April, the Board secured search firm BWP & Associates to gain input from District 30 stakeholders and create a leadership profile to identify quality candidates for this role. Board members conducted two rounds of interviews with final candidates this past month, and they look forward to announcing their selection to our District 30 community next week.
Details on our incoming Superintendent of Schools will also be shared on our social media channels below, as well as in the Board Brief shared by Dr. Wegley following each meeting via email and on our website. Thank you to all who contributed to the leadership profile that helped guide this search.

Join the Lew Blond Run Committee
The Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk is seeking to add new committee members interested in assisting with the planning of this fantastic race that raises funds to fight ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)! This spring's race is set for Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Maple School.
For 22 years, this race has honored Lew Blond, a District 30 school teacher who passed away from ALS in February 2000. He was an exceptional and dedicated educator of the applied arts and was revered and cherished by his students, their parents and his colleagues. The Lew Blond organization has donated over $500,000 to fight ALS since the race's inception, offered scholarships at GBN and GBS, and contributed to District 30 special projects at all three buildings.
But the run goes beyond the donations -- it also serves as an important community event spreading joy and bringing people together, celebrating healthy living that extends past the finish line, and raising awareness for the impact of ALS and the need for further research and support.
Current and past members of this committee have felt a sense of pride in both raising funds for meaningful causes and contributing to an event that fosters togetherness and positivity throughout District 30. We hope you will join us and help inspire new ideas and possibilities! Help us make it the best race to date!

SNOWFLAKE SUCCESS
Our Maple 8th-graders had a very successful and fun day today during Snowflake, a full-day social-emotional retreat focusing on substance abuse prevention and healthy choices.
Students participated in: a presentation from Imagination Theater, with interactive skits focusing on self-esteem, vaping, drinking and drugs; a panel discussion with members of Providence Farm Sober Living Community; and a presentation by BMX Champion and Olympic Coach Tony Hoffman, who spoke on his journey from the prison system for drug-related offenses to becoming an author and professional mental health and substance abuse speaker.
Thank you to everyone who made this extraordinary day possible!
