Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,
There will be no school on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20 to celebrate President's Day.
Vector 4 started today for Grade 6 and some of our 7th Graders. We also started our Grade Level meetings today with 6th Grade to discuss our behavioral expectations. We will meet with 7th grade on Tuesday and 8th Grade on Wednesday.
As many of you have already heard, it is with a heavy heart that I share that our school counselor, Mr. Chris Jackson, has accepted a position at his Alma Mater, Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Mr. Jackson will be here at PV East until mid April. Our work has already begun to find another school counselor who can fill Mr. Jackson's sneakers. We wish Mr. Jackson all the best on his new position.
Middle level administration is considering the following changes.
- Wearing ID Badges throughout the day.
- Blocking all Chromebook apps and extensions unless pre-approved by the District Office to prevent students from getting around our filter with a 3rd party extension.
- All backpacks are placed in student lockers to limit what students carry throughout the day.
- All cell phones to be placed in lockers throughout the day.
We are hoping to gather parent feedback at the Middle Level Principals Roundtable on Wednesday, March 1st at 6:30PM at MS East’s Library. Please join us.
We are heading to Crunch 'Em Hall next month. Our students will be performing in 'Matilda' the Musical. This will be a great event for the whole family. Make plans to join us!
- Friday, March 3 at 7:00pm
- Saturday, March 4 at 6pm
- Sunday, March 5 at 1pm
Sincerely,
Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

First day of Middle School Sports is MARCH 13.
If the spring sports season will be the first sport of participation at PV this school year: Registration for spring sports must occur by February 21. This can be done at http://www.planeths.com. In addition to registering, student-athletes must have a PIAA physical examination done by a doctor and the proper paperwork completed by the doctor. In order to count for the 2023 school year, the physical must occur June 1, 2022 or later. The form is found on www.planeths.com when you register.
If the spring sports season is your second or third sport season this school year: Complete section 8 Spring Recertification at http://www.planeths.com by February 21. The Spring Recertification form will populate in your profile after February 1. If there has been a change to your health history or an injury since completing your last physical, an additional section 9 form is required as well. This does require a clearance from a doctor.

Laurel House, Victim Services, & Creative Health Services
Update: We are partnering with three organizations, Laurel House,Victim Services, and Creative Health Services in Montgomery County to support our 7th & 8th Graders. Laurel House will be coming to East in late February to share a couple lessons with our 8th grade students called 'Shifting Spaces: Preventing Sexual & Domestic Violence in Schools' . Victim Services will also be coming to East in April to share a couple lessons with our 7th grade students called 'Better Boundaries'. While Creative Health Services will be coming in April to share a couple of lessons on 'Signs of Suicide'.
Parents may opt out their child from these programs by emailing me directly at sclune@pvsd.org
Message from the School Nurse
Please remind your children that there is to be no sharing of food in the cafeteria. This is a safety concern as other children have food allergies and other dietary restrictions.
How Sick is Too Sick for School?
The student must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications (i.e. Tylenol or Advil), and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school.
For specific identified infectious diseases, students will be excluded from school according to the Office of Public Health guidelines.
Students are not permitted to carry any medications in school. All medication, including over the counter medications, must have a physician order and be brought to the nurse’s office by a parent or guardian.
If your student becomes ill at school they must report to the nurse. Safety dictates that students not go to the bathroom to deal with an illness on their own.
A parent/guardian or emergency contact will be called by the nurse if the nurse determines the student is too ill to remain in school, has a temperature of 100.0 degrees or more, has vomited or has diarrhea.
It is recommended that a parent or designee pick up a sick or ill student within an hour of being notified by the nurse.
Covering coughs/sneezes and proper handwashing will help prevent the spread of illnesses.
National Suicide Prevention Hotline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
