September PAWS for Attendance News
Congrats to the 4th grade who had the highest percentage of perfect attendance for the month of September at 69%. Ms. Hardy’s class had the highest percent for a class at 87%! Great work. Like last month, we had a higher percentage of perfect attendance for September 2016 than 2015. Keep up the great work and be sure to be HERE EVERYDAY ON TIME!
Important October Dates
Mark your calendars for two important activities coming up the week of October 17-21st, Red Ribbon Week and the Great Days of Service Canned Food Drive. During the week of October 17-21 we will be collecting cans for the Great Days of Service Canned Food Drive. The class k-2 and 3-5 with the most cans will have a Popsicle party! There will be many great activities to promote a safe, healthy, and drug free school during Sycamore's Red Ribbon week. We are hosting a Safe and Healthy Choices Poster Contest. All poster due to Ms. Moody by 10/14. Please stay tuned for further details regarding Theme days and other Red Ribbon Week Events.
Parents,
Fall is here and I can't be happier! As a native of New Jersey, these months are always exciting. I can't wait to see the leaves make their transition to their amazing colors and the beautiful experiences of the season begin to unfold. I hope that the brisk nights and cool mornings remind you of positive memories as well.
Thank you for coming to our school for conferences, meetings and other annual events, like Friday's "Literacy Palooza!" It was great to see so many of you smiling and enjoying our school events. Your willingness to support us is appreciated! I hope you enjoyed your time on our campus.
We have another busy week at our school this week as we forge ahead to more teaching and learning. Please continue to check our website and your teacher for additional information where needed.

Parents
It was so great to see you during our parent-teacher conferences this week. Many of you received our Title I packets during your conference or in the Friday folders. Our goal is to have a signed receipt of documents and a signed compact cover page for each student enrolled at Sycamore ES. Please contact me, if you have any questions.
Often after conferences, parents find out that their child needs additional help. I would like to offer my support as parent instructional coordinator and provide some helpful resources to use with your child at home. Please call me in the Parent Center 678.765.4861 or email marjorie_mantilla@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
Finally, I would like to extend an invitation to attend our first Parent University workshop this Thursday October 6, 2016 at 9:00 am and 6:30 pm. We will be sharing important literacy building skills that you can practice at home with your child. It is a perfect follow up to our fun Literacy Palooza day! I hope to see you soon!
Marjorie Mantilla, Parent Instructional Support Coordinator
Reminders:
As a reminder, please make sure that you are viewing our website frequently for updates and calendar changes. The calendar is in "real time" and will allow for you to stay up to date with our school events. www.sycamorees.org
Additionally, the REMIND app is another wonderful way to stay connected to our school events and protocols should an emergency or situation arise that needs further communication. The sign-in information is located on one of the slides on the left side of our website (powerpoint slide).
Action Required: School Accreditation Parent Survey Link: Please complete
Parent:
http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/section/response/begin?surveyConfigId=582053
Gwinnett County Public Schools is up for accreditation. Part of this process requires staff, students and parents to complete a survey. Please help us gather input from you by completing the survey above at your earliest convenience. We need to have 20% or more participation. Thank you!
Lunch:
Please continue to satisfy all lunch balances. Students whose lunch balances are $5.00 or more will not have a hot lunch and will have a cheese sandwich until all lunch fees have been paid. Thank you for understanding this important policy.
Cafeteria Visits:
We welcome you to have lunch with your child. Once you have completed your lunch visit, you are asked to exit the front of the building. Once teachers pick up their students that signals the end of the cafeteria visit. If you would like to visit the classroom, you will have to request a visit beforehand and retrieve a new sticker. We would love to have you!
