Summer 2018
Campaign Update and Construction Progress Report
On behalf of all of us at North Star, thank you for your generous support of the Sports Complex and Playground Campaign these past two years! Together, we have made great strides in the vision to create a functional play, athletic and learning space for our students and community. We would not be where we are today without the generous support of so many of you!
This campaign is important for the strategic development of North Star.“Providing these state-of-the-art facilities will add an important dimension and wholeness to the education we offer, as well as serve to attract and retain the best teachers and students.” Bill Russell, Chairman of the Board.
As you may know, we receive about 22% less funding* than the district schools in Idaho. We work diligently to stretch our budget to make the biggest impact. As such, we have a limited budget for capital expenditures and would not be able to accomplish projects of this size without your support.
North Star is known for setting and achieving high standards. Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we set the bar high as a community to accomplish great things for our school.
2018 Summer Slated Projects
Sport Court and Seal-Coating
The sport court and seal-coating of the blacktop is scheduled to be completed this summer. The sport court will be on the south corner of the blacktop. It will be fenced and surfaced to support multiple sports such as basketball, volleyball, pickle ball, and non-regulation size tennis.
We are thrilled for the increased square footage this will provide our PE classes as well as the exposure to multiple sports for all students. In addition, through a partnership and generous donation from Curtis Clean Sweep and Seal Master Boise, we will be able to add bright colors and our logo to our black top! This will add a playful component to our playground as well as re-enforce our North Star brand.
Actual Color may vary slightly with the picture shown due to display differences in computer monitors.
Field
Though originally part of phase 3, our landscape architect and landscaper have put together a plan to level the playing field area for a fraction of the cost of overhauling it. Based on multiple expert opinions, we are confident (and thrilled) about this new direction and are excited to announce that it will be done this summer! This will create a much safer play space for students and potentially allow us to add additional field based sports such as soccer and la crosse. The track will need to be added at a later date, but the leveling and improvements this summer will streamline that process when the time comes. We look forward to a newly seeded, pot-hole free, flat field by Fall and are grateful for the service of those working to help us get as much as possible done with your donations.
Project Impact - From our Physical Education Department
"The Sport Court will be used for many activities such as volleyball, basketball, and maybe even tennis which I've always wanted to teach!!! The extra square footage outside of the gym will allow the kids to be more focused (and less noise!) and safer with less students in one place.
Leveling the field is also extremely important! We have many challenges due to holes in the field. Additionally our track team will be able to practice on a level ground which will improve running form and injury prevention!" Emily Parker, Elementary PE Teacher
"The new fitness equipment has given us a great reason to be outside! It’s allowed me to be more creative with different exercises that can be done on the new equipment.
I'm looking forward to the new sport court and a leveled field! The sport court gives us the opportunity to teach the students new and different sports/games that don’t exist in the gym. It will allow some classes to use the full gym, while other classes can be in the field or on the sport court. A level field will allow us to play sports in the field, without worry about injury on an uneven field. Our track and cross country team will be able to practice on our own field which will lead to potentially more students participating in those sports." Trevor Holladay, Secondary PE Teacher
