May’s Key of Excellence: Balance
Live your best life! Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what’s meaningful and important in your life. Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.
This week's mindset quote:““Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving” – Albert Einstein

Hi Parents,
Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms! I hope you're showered in love today and always.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated CMS Staff Appreciation Week by sending emails and notes of thanks and support to the Triton Team! We loved hearing from you and your kids. A very special thank you to the PTO for your generosity and constant care. We appreciate you!
I want to recognize the work of our 8th grade promotion committee who have spent countless hours working on a plan to make this a special time for our promoting students. The committee, headed by Mr. Roelof Roos, would appreciate the support of all 8th grade parents so our students can be presented with a memento/gift and an opportunity to capture one final Triton moment before they move on as an Islander. Please make your donation here Link to Donate (more information below)
Be sure to check out the CMS Tritons PowerSchool page. I'm so proud of our students for staying connected through the fun experiences and opportunities offered. And, be sure to take a look at the Shout Outs below. Way to go, Tritons!
All my best,
Karin

The Weekly Link:
Dear Parents,
We have completed 5 weeks of distance learning. Take a moment to celebrate the successes of all the hats you wear. We continue to be blown away by your partnership with us. Thank you.
This week’s link deals with the big emotions our teens and preteens are experiencing due to the quarantine. While there are many things you, and your child cannot control, recognizing the things you can control is key to helping your child control over those big emotions. The link contains a couple of easy exercises you can do with your child, in order to help them cope. Here is the Washington Post article. “This crisis won’t last forever,” she says, “but the lessons you’re teaching your kids right now will last a lifetime.”
In addition, we are hearing from many of you how difficult it is to balance helping your child with school work and being your child's parent. We encourage you to build non-screen breaks into your child's schedule and use the time to reconnect as parent and child. We've included a list of some of our favorite screen-free activities.
- Make a tie die shirt
- Take a walk
- Take a bike ride
- Create a collage/vision board
- Make a time capsule
- At home camping (tent/smores)
- Send postcards to family and friends
- Fly a kite
- Have a dance off,
- Start a gratitude journal
- Play charades
- Plant something
Until next time, we wish you well.

CUSD GRAB-AND-GO MEAL SERVICE
Grab-and-Go Meal Service at Village Elementary and Silver Strand
When: Every Monday
Location: Multi-Purpose Rooms at VES (H Street) and Silver Strand Elementary
Distribution Time: 11:00AM - 1:00PM (while supplies last)
Families with children 18 and under will be able to pick up free breakfast and lunch meals via curb-side pick-up. Students who are receiving meals are encouraged to be physically present at the time of pick-up. Additionally, adults may pick up meals for students not present by printing and submitting this form at the time of pick-up. All meals will be distributed curb-side to decrease the risk of exposure. Only those in cars will be served meals during this pick-up time, no walk ups or bicycles allowed in order to maintain social distancing. If you are unable to pick-up meals by car or during the scheduled distribution time, please email Charity.Campbell@coronadousd.net on or before Friday, April 10 at noon and we will schedule an alternative window to pick-up a meal.
While the program was designed to serve the neediest families in our community, children are not required to be students of Coronado Unified School District. On April 6, the first day of meal distribution, we served 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals to 630 children, 6300 meals in total. With such an overwhelming response, we will be preparing even more meals to accommodate our school community. This is free for all children, regardless of meal status - please spread the word!

Attention: 8th Grade Parents
PROMOTION EVENTS: The 8th grade promotion committee needs your support. Annually, parents of 8th grade students are asked to make a monetary donation to provide memorable events and experiences for our promoting students. At this time, we were hoping to be in the busy stages of planning the Promotion Dance and 8th Grade Breakfast. We're saddened that we will not be able to provide our children with this experience, but we certainly want to recognize their efforts, hard work, and commitment to their middle school years.
It's important to know that the annual events donation not only pays for the dance and breakfast, it also supports funding the "Class of 2024 CHS ASB fund." These monies are used by the Class of 2024 for activities and community building experiences such as homecoming, spirit events, prom, graduation festivities, and much more. It's essential, and tradition, that they are set up for success as they become the CHS Freshman Class of 2024.
The monies raised will not only be used for the Class of 2024 fund, additionally, each 8th grader will receive a CMS memento. We are also hopeful that we will be able to provide an opportunity during the second week of June for our soon-to-be Islanders to capture one final memory as a CMS Triton.
We hope you will make a $40 donation to support our promoting 8th graders. (Additional funds are appreciated.) Please use the link below to make your donation.Cash and checks cannot be accepted.
Please make your donation here Link to Donate
The 8th-grade promotion committee can use your help with creating memories. Please reach out to Roelof Roos (cms@roelof.me).
Thank you for your support of our 8th graders.
