Reaction 1- Composition/Synthesis

A+B ----> AB

Lab: Iron Man Smells Like Sulfur

Safety: Roll up your sleeves, tie back your hair, wear safety goggles, waft, don't sniff, and wash your hands if you get chemicals on your hands


Procedure:

Obtain Materials

Measure 7g of Iron and 4g of Sulfur

Mix the Iron and Sulfur

Pour the iron-sulfur mix into the test tube and put it over the Bunsen burner

Reaction 2- Decompostition

AB ---> A+B

Lab: Let's Get Fired Up

Procedure:

Obtain Materials

Put Hydrogen Peroxide in each test tube (1/4)

Put Manganese Dioxide in the Hydrogen Peroxide and cover the test tube immediately to keep oxygen from escaping

Light a stick then blow it out so the tip is still glowing

Quickly release your finger from the mouth of the tube and stick the stick in so that it sort of relights but doesn't touch the liquid.

If there is oxygen, the stick should relight.

Reaction 3- Single Replacement

AB+C ---> AC+B

Lab: Drop It In Acid

Safety: Roll up your sleeves, tie back your hair, wear safety goggles, waft, don't sniff, and wash your hands if you get chemicals on your hands


Procedure:

Obtain materials

Pour Hydrochloric Acid into a test tube so its about 1/4 full

Add a Magnesium Strip to the Hydrochloric Acid.

It should fizz quickly.

Reaction 4- Double Replacement

AB+CD ---> AC+BD

Procedure:

Obtain Materials

Fill one test tube 1/8 full of Copper Sulfate

Drop the nail in the Copper Sulfate and wait about ten minutes

Observe as the nail turns pink

It can be dangerous to shove your nose into a chemical to smell it, so it is important to waft above the container or test tube and towards your nose.
