A couple of special mentions:
- Thank you to ALL the volunteers helping with KDG Orientation!
- Thank you to Mrs. Boling and Mrs. Leluga for staffing our Tears and Cheers event for parents!
- Thank you to Mr. Griffith, Mr. Porter, and Myles Porter for beautifying our north entrance. The new mulch, mums, and trimmed up perennials look beautiful!
- Thank you to Mrs. Beach, Mrs. Nelson, and their Girl Scouts for continuing to beautify our courtyard. They cleaned up and added new plants just before school began.
- Thank you to Buildings and Grounds for installing our new Basket Hoop Games! The students just love it!
A very special Thank You goes to our families. We appreciated your support during Orientation and Open House this week. We are thankful for meeting each of you and learning about your child(ren). We look forward to a great year!

Home-School Connections
Welcome Back! It is going to be another great year! It is great to see fresh and eager faces ready to learn. Kelly Mucha, LCSW, ISSW, will now be the full time Home School Facilitator at Winfield Elementary as a part of the School Counselors team. She and PBIS coach, Brandy Sims, will continue to work together to help create a positive and welcoming environment for all of our students. We will be sharing resources weekly through this newsletter. Below you will find information on our updated PAWS Program being implemented this year. If you did not receive this information at open house, it will be sent home with your student. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
PAWS
Play Fairly · Act Kindly · Work Hard · Show Respect
What is the PAWS program?
PAWS is our school-wide behavioral philosophy. At Winfield Elementary, we strive to play fairly, act kindly, work hard, and show respect. Our students are introduced to these behavioral expectations, while our teachers and staff actively teach students exactly what these behaviors look and sound like.
How does PAWS work?
Students will have the opportunity to earn tickets for demonstrating behaviors aligning with our PAWS philosophy. The ticket will be placed into his or her classroom bucket. One ticket will be drawn from each class weekly. The owner of the ticket will be awarded with a small prize or an experience, such as lunch with a teacher.
We have set an initial goal for our students to reach a combined total of 3000 tickets earned throughout the school year. A school-wide assembly will be given near the end of each quarter to celebrate and track PAWS tickets earned.

School Attendance
Regular school attendance is critical to a child's success. We recognize that being at school on time, all day, every day is the responsibility of the entire family. We are excited to announce that we will be honoring one FAMILY each week that demonstrates perfect attendance. Each full week, on Friday afternoon, we will draw a family name to win a Family Fun Night! Included in this fun pack will be a voucher for dinner from Pizza Hut and a movie from Redbox!

As a school we believe it is important to recognize students on their birthdays. To protect instructional time in the classroom and manage student health needs, we do not allow edible birthday treats in the classroom (this includes CANDY in treat bags). Your child's birthday will be announced on the morning announcements and he/she is invited to the office for a small birthday treat.
If you choose, non-food items may be substituted your child may commemorate their special day by bringing a small treat for their classmates (pencil, bookmark, sticker, etc.) or dedicating a book to the classroom (and placing a special birthday bookplate inside).
OPTIONAL: Families wishing to celebrate their child's birthdays at lunch may purchase Ice Cream Tickets for each child in the class. Tickets are $0.75 each. Please complete an order form in the office 1 week prior to birthday.

Safety & Security
Winfield Elementary is a closed campus. Doors and access points remained locked at all times throughout the day. If you need to visit the school, please follow these procedures:
- Ring the doorbell at the entrance you are wishing to access. The Main Entrance is 1E, and the Latch Key Child Care Entrance is 2E.
- Stand close to the camera and speaker. Provide information as requested by the office staff. They may ask your name, purpose of visit, and may even ask you to show your ID to the camera.
- Once you are buzzed through the first door (1E entrance only), you will need to press a second doorbell to gain entrance to the office. When you hear the door buzzer, simply push the door to open. There is no need to turn the handle.
Additional notes:
- Please schedule visits with the appropriate staff member. Teachers are busy teaching and may not have time for unscheduled visits or conferences.
- Volunteers are the heartbeat of our school! While we love volunteers, they too must be scheduled in advance. Teachers are required to provide their "volunteer schedules" to the office. This allows us to efficiently monitor and manage our volume of guests.
- If you are visiting for a guest lunch day, please allow yourself ample time to be checked in through SafeVisitor.
- When in doubt, call ahead. Our office is staffed from 7:30-4:30 to answer your questions and calls.
CAFE Corner
CAFE...Community Advocates For Education
ALL parents or legal guardians of children attending Winfield and/or Jerry Ross schools and ALL persons of the staff and faculty are automatically members of the CAFE. Any community member with a vested interest in the schools is also granted membership. There are no membership fees involved.
The purpose of the CAFE is threefold:
- To increase parent involvement and participation in school and community activities.
- To strengthen home, school and community communication and ensure all segments of the community are kept fully informed of CAFE commitments.
- To organize and oversee fundraising and school events for the benefit of Winfield/Jerry Ross Elementary students and families.
We need everyone’s help to make CAFE a successful support group for our schools. Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, September 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the Jerry Ross Elementary School cafeteria.
