KCS GT Update

September 2020 Volume 4

Greetings!

We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we embark on this new school year, we want you to feel confident that we have you and your child at the forefront of everything we are planning and creating! We hope that this newsletter highlights any unanswered questions you might have about your child's GT service whether virtually or in-person. We also wanted to continue to provide you with additional enrichment resources, strategies, and informational links. We are in this together. We look forward to making this year the best one yet!!

GT and Your Child This Year

Your child's GT Coach is working hard behind the scenes collaborating with your child's teacher(s) and principals to ensure we continue the high-quality GT programming we have always done. Coaches are working in partnership with your child's teacher(s) to implement: small group instruction (utilizing various platforms to meet the needs of your child), co-planning and co-teaching lessons centered around problem-solving and thinking, gifted professional development, and advancing resources for your child's enrichment. Rest assured that we have developed plans for all educational phases; green, red, and yellow. GT services will be received in-person and virtually.

KCS GT Department

The KCS Gifted and Talented department strives to create a SAFE environment for each other, our teachers, students, schools and parents where we value Support, Advocacy, Flexibility, and Empathy.

As instructional coaches, we will meet each teacher where they are as we seek to create a SHIFT in service delivery and instructional practice in order for every teacher to feel confident in providing challenging and engaging instruction requiring students to persevere through complex tasks.

As gifted practitioners, we will meet each student where they are as we seek to create a SHIFT in student efficacy in order for every student to feel confident in participating in complex tasks, advocating for themselves, and utilizing a growth mindset.
