Fiction of the Historical Kind
Travelling Back in Time in Our Reading Groups
"It's true, but it's not real."
That was one of the interesting ways we explained historical fiction this past week. We have started back up with reading groups and I haven't let them read their books yet, just research the time period and place where their book takes place. It is enjoyable to see your children really want to read books.
In math we are working with fractions and decimals and will be doing so for pretty much all of February. I will be sending home some information about our math midyear with the students after we complete some review this week. Everyone will be getting an email this week from me about your child's performance on both midyears so we can discuss any concerns I or you may have moving forward.
Will You Be My Valentine?
We will have the opportunity to exchange Valentines on the 14th. The students can make a bag in class the day before and then bring in Valentines if they so choose. I will send a class list home on Monday to help facilitate the addressing. And in a cruel twist of fate, the bag full of Valentines will sit on the counter until it is time to go home. :)
Recorder Orders
Yes, it's that time of the year, when you never thought you could experience a sound quite as piercing as "Hot Cross Buns" on a recorder. The forms were sent home on Thursday and Dr. Jones would like them back in a week or so to send in the order. The question most often asked is if the book is required and the answer is "No." I do allow students to take them home to practice, so I apologize in advance. Our music day is Thursday, so they need to make sure they come back that day.
