Yo Yo Ma, Artists and Life!

Welcome Back and some Important Dates

Hi All

I hope you all got some much needed rest and are ready for the last few months. When we get to spring break I am always surprised that the year has flown by so quickly and here we are at the need of the year.

I will publish the end of year events and check out list soon. We can't create next falls classes yet as I do not have the teacher allocation. That should be coming shortly. Also, the budget is still in development so we have a few unknowns right now.

We are working on the Cowell ask and I will provide an update soon. Anu Cairo will be visiting on April 2 and May 10. She will be here for Hareem's time with us and then for the Leadership Team.

March 27th - the LCAP Committee will be here to walk through classrooms. It will be very similar to the principal walk through. I will do a short presentation to ground our work for the team and then we will be in classrooms from 9am to 10am. I would like to highlight readers and writers and our small group work again! You all knocked it out of the park for the principals. Baseball season lingo!

Thank you all gain for your endless dedication and hard work!!

much love and appreciation, Maite

Lucy Calkins and her Team

I wanted to share with you one of the many reasons I am an advocate for readers and writers workshop and the professional development Lucy Calkins and her team offer.

Attached is a statement recently published by Lucy and her colleagues regarding their work.

For me it is not just about the level of rigor, quality of instruction and development of independent thinkers and learners... it is also about equity, social justice and racism.

Great Read

This was my spring break read. I am still processing it all and much of it we know from our daily work with children. The author connects the functions of the brain, culture and learning and how we as educators need to be fully aware of the effects on learning culture has for our students. It is an excellent and quick read.

We wanted to let you know - our first week of summer camp (June 10-June 14) will be split into a morning session and an afternoon session to accommodate kids who have summer school. The camp sessions run from 10AM-1PM and 2PM-5PM, but we are open to tweaking the times if summer school gets out later. We have 10 slots set aside for summer school kids.

Math Promise Standards (Repeat)

Based on my recent principal meeting we will need to be ready to talk about promise standards in math by April 30. The documents you have created will help with this conversation. In addition, the Napa standards will help inform this work.

There will be a release day in May and we will need grade level representation at a district grade level meeting. Please let me know who will represent your grade level.

Sign up for your grade rep.
