Murray's Gifted Gab
February 2018
A Note From Mrs. Shook
Hopefully most of our snow days and sickness are behind us! January was a difficult month for sure. This week students will be taking their benchmarks in ELA and Math. After I have a chance to review scores, I will be touching base with the teachers to make sure we are continuing to grow and challenge our gifted learners. It can be difficult to show growth in some gifted students. This is why it is so important that we continue to have conversations throughout the year about how to challenge students and best meet their needs.
DEP Progress Reports will be coming home this week. There will be a letter included that explains the purpose behind the reports. Please reach out to me or your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns.
8th graders will have AIG transition meetings this Friday, February 9th. The high school gifted specialists will join us to help 8th grade students draft a plan for high school. Please keep in mind that this is just a plan and that a copy will be provided for you. Students will register for classes at a later date with the high school counselors and you will have the opportunity to approve of the courses. The purpose of the meetings is for the students to meet the high school specialists and to see what options are available. A letter was sent home to 8th grade AIG students regarding High School AIG services,
We are still in need of parent volunteers in our Maker Space. We are in the process of getting a green screen and have already created a Flipgrid booth that will be available to our students. We also have an Amazon wishlist of things we would love to have for the Maker Space. These are the things that go beyond regular classroom instruction and enrich learning for your children.
Thank you for all that you do to support Gifted Education!
