Day of Service to Those in Need
Thursday, January 16th
Upcoming Middle School Service Experience
The federal holiday marking Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday was first observed in 1986. It is the third Monday in January every year. In 1994 this holiday was designated a national day of service. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
Please read below for details on who we will be serving and ways you can be involved.
Thanks, Mr. Jorgenson
Feed My Starving Children
FMSC offers volunteers a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets and shipped to our incredible partners working hard to reach the neediest children around the world.
Through volunteering at FMSC, you’ll get the chance to impact hundreds of kids in just two hours per packing shift. You’ll experience what it’s like to make a tangible difference today.
Bernies Book Bank
Bernie’s Book Bank sources, processes and distributes quality new and gently used children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland.
Bernie’s Book Bank is the leading provider of quality books to at-risk children in the Chicagoland area.
As a non-profit organization funded entirely by generous individuals, foundations and caring companies, Bernie’s Book Bank cannot succeed without the support of many book donors, volunteers, and investors. Working together, we are transforming the educational journey of thousands of at-risk children by providing them the tools they need to become successful readers.
