Be Seen and Heard Assemblies Follow-Up
On Thursday, K-5 students were involved in a program called Be Seen and Heard. The Be Seen and Heard© sexual abuse prevention curriculum is evidence-based, research-based and and proven to be effective. It meets Erin’s Law mandate requirements and CDC guidelines for recommended solutions to reducing the mental and physical health consequences stemming from child sexual abuse and physical abuse. One in five children will experience a form of child sexual abuse; 90 percent by someone they know.
Erin’s Law requires* that all public schools offer sexual abuse prevention education to help children gain the confidence to have a voice, and to speak up in cases of sexual abuse. These programs educate children to be able to recognize the signs of sexual abuse and teaches educators and other school officials to be able to recognize an abused child. Erin’s Law Programs also teach parents how to recognize the signs and provides resources for them to help sexually abused children in their family.
We would like to thank Deanna Hynes, who was our presenter on Thursday. She did a wonderful job with our students. Deanna shared a story with all groups. She also wanetd tinvite famileis to acess any of the materials that were shared. If you are interesed, please go www.Tic-Tac-No-Go.com. There you will find:
A free copy of Victor Pacini's Be Seen and Heard© eBook
A free copy of the Be Seen and Heard© coloring book
Free copy of the Tic-Tac-No-Go song
Watch the Tic-Tac-No-Go music video
Body Safety Posters
FAQ section
Opportunity to connect with other parents
Other resources for you and your children
We will be doing some follow-up videos and discussions over the next few weeks in classrooms as we continue to remind our students to keep their bodies safe.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be sent via email on Friday, December 2. Included in the report card will be information on absences and how your child is assessed on learning skills. In addition, teachers will be writing notes in the comment section. If your child sees additional staff members as a part of their learning, there will be a separate comment box at the end of the report card for you to review.
Our rating scales, which we call proficiency scales, are used to determine grading on our report cards. We have developed scales for both English Language Arts and in Math. At this point we have not done these for Science, Social Studies, or for Specials. These will be developed in the future. At this point those classes are just listed just by name, but will be getting a rating of 3, 2, or 1.
We encourage you to review your child's grade level proficiency scales prior to report cards being sent home. Click the link below to navigate to our website. There you will see each grade levels proficiency scales, report card templates, and our Parents Guide to Standards- Based Grading

Victoria Skeppstrom - Millburn Elementary Activity Director
I have one child at in first grade, and his little brother will join the Mustang crew next year. I am so thrilled to be the Elementary Activities Director for EPIC and cannot wait to work as a team to plan and facilitate events to get our community together! I adored my job as a preschool teacher where I had many opportunities to be creative and collaborate with parents. Now, thanks to my supportive husband who runs his own TapSnap photobooth business, I am fulfilling one of my life goals, being a stay at home mom for a few years in the lovely town of Lindenhurst.
Sally Mercado - Millburn Middle School Activity Director
I have 2 Millburn students; one in fourth grade and one in sixth grade. I have been volunteering at Millburn since my oldest was in Kindergarten. I have always loved the staff and the school.
I am excited to be part of EPIC and sponsor all of their wonderful student activities. I look forward to helping them provide the school, parents and students all that EPIC can offer!
