Madison Career Week
This year, as part of our school improvement plan, we have been focusing on goals that fall under the area of relevancy. In an effort to expose students to a variety of career professions and see how these professions use reading, writing, and math in their everyday lives, we are looking for family members to visit our classrooms to share about your job or career during the week of May 13-16. We are hoping for a wide variety of professions that can be shared with our bears so ALL jobs and careers are welcome.
Please click on the sign-up sheet that matches your child's classroom teacher to select a time to come speak with our class - sign up sheet.
A Message From Mrs. Beach
Dear Madison Families,
I want to say thank you so much to all of the Madison families for making my experience as the Assistant Principal / Intern these past three years so rewarding. I have accepted the offer to be the new principal at Moonlight Elementary for the next school year so will be leaving Madison at the end of this year. The nice part is I will still be in town, but it is terribly hard to say goodbye after working and teaching at Madison for the last thirteen years. I have made so many lifelong friendships with so many of you and have countless memories that I will always carry with me. I love my Madison Family dearly and hope that all of you will continue to reach out to me anytime in the years to come and continue to always stay in touch.
Thank you again for everything,
Katie Anne Beach

Counselor Corner
We have completed our lessons on personal safety. I wanted to share a couple of things we have discussed.
Our Bears, grades K-4, have been challenged to learn their parents' cell phone numbers, and grades 3-4 their address as well. This is a basic way our kids can feel safe in an emergency or even in social situations where we need to call parents.
Here are a few fun ways my family practiced phone numbers:
Phone Hide and Seek - a child has one phone and the parent has the other. Parent hides with the phone. The child has to dial the phone number and listen for the ring or parent answering to find the parent.
Phone Song - Make up a little song with the phone number. Practice in the car.
Electronic Password - Make a tablet, app, computer, or other electronic passwords your phone number.
We also reviewed that if we get separated from our parents in a public place, we should not run around looking for parents. Instead, we should stay in one place and ask an employee with a badge or another mom for help. Again, knowing a phone number can help us get back together again swiftly.
Our Bears can be empowered to make good choices and keep themselves safe.
