SHAWNEE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANTS
Shawnee Schools Receive $25,000+ in SEF Grants

SMS Teacher Jayme Hutchcraft Named Rising Star
Jayme Hutchcraft, a seventh-grade English language arts teacher at Shawnee Middle School, was named a 2019 Oklahoma Rising Star at the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year ceremony.
The Rising Star designation is given to a select few district-level Teachers of the Year who have fewer than 10 years teaching experience and who show exceptional promise to the teaching profession. Only five Oklahoma teachers were chosen as Rising Stars this year.
“I am not surprised that Jayme was named a Rising Star,” said Dr. April Grace, superintendent of Shawnee Public Schools. “Her excellence in teaching is far beyond her years of experience.
“We look forward to Jayme impacting the lives of students for many years to come. We are proud of the way she represents Shawnee Public Schools and the Shawnee community,” Grace said.
Hutchcraft noted the impact her parents made on her decision to become a teacher. Her parents, Todd and Dana Boyer, are long-time educators within the district.
“I saw my parents build relationships with students and plant seeds for students to reach for and oftentimes exceed the potential others saw in them,” Hutchcraft said. “The impact that my parents had on those they mentored was something that I wanted to be a part of in my life.”
Hutchcraft is in her seventh year of teaching with Shawnee Public Schools.
