WE ARE PARSONS STRONG AND READY!
Phasing in to In Person Instruction
On August 4, GCPS announced a plan to begin in person instruction for students whose parents selected this learning environment for their child. The plan calls for bringing in a limited number of grade levels at first and then adding more grade levels on a staggered basis. Beginning Wednesday, August 26, students in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 6th grade, 9th grade and all self-contained Special Education classes will begin in person instruction. We will welcome back in person 2nd and 3rd grade students on Wednesday, September 2, and 4th and 5th grade on Wednesday, September 9. For details on the staggered return of all grade levels over the next few weeks please click here.
As a school community it is important that all parents are informed about the in person return plan no matter if you chose digital or in person for your child. Our goal was to make minimal changes to class lists and the schedule, while maintaining high levels of teaching and learning. We considered many different options and due to the ever changing Covid-19 information, we had to go with a plan that would be fluid no matter what situation we are faced with. The plan we will be implementing at Parsons is referred to as the 'Hybrid Model'. This model allows classrooms, or our entire school, to move from digital to in person or in person to digital based on safety/health needs with no change to your child's teacher or the schedule.
Students who will return in person will remain with their current classroom teacher. The teacher will continue to provide 'LIVE' lessons to digital students as he/she presents 'LIVE' to the in person students simultaneously. Classrooms will begin their day with morning announcements and their morning classroom meeting to continue establishing the learning community. Students in both platforms will continue to receive whole group 'LIVE' instruction in each content area and small group instruction. In order for this plan to work, we are going to ask that students in person bring their device from home so they can continue to access assignments on their teacher's eCLASS page.
Again, our goal was to make minimal changes for our students and to provide fluidity throughout these times due to Covid-19. Therefore, your child will remain with their current teacher and follow a similar learning schedule throughout the semester. Your child’s classroom teacher will communicate classroom specific information and the use of a personal device to be used during in person instruction.
Our school hours will be 8:50am to 3:20pm. Arrival is from 8:20am to 8:50am and dismissal is from 3:20pm to 3:50pm. If your child is a bus rider, please check the Transportation tab in the Parent Portal for bus stop times. If your child is returning in person and will be a car rider, please make sure you have your 2020-2021 car rider tag. If you do not, please stop by the office prior to your child's in person return date.
I know this is a lot of information and we have had many changes since July. With that being said, I cannot tell you how proud I am to serve as your principal. I am committed to supporting our students, teachers, staff, and community, no matter what learning platform we are in. We are excited to see our in person kiddos, as well as our digital students, returning and continuing to build our #PARSONSSTRONG community.
