WASHINGTON TRAILS ASSOCIATION - SEHOME ARBORETUM WORK PARTIES

Our Youth and Family specific work parties take place from 9:00am - 2:00pm and are targeted specifically to youth (10 - 18 years) and their families. Participants can earn up to 5 service learning hours and should expect to help WTA build a realignment for the South Ridge trail located in the Arboretum! The reason we are doing this project is to create a more sustainably designed section of trail to replace the existing section which is showing signs of erosion and degradation. This will be a unique opportunity for Sehome students to make a lasting impact in a local park and potentially engage with the park on a deeper level.

ONLINE COURSES FOR SUMMER SCHOOL

Students in Bellingham Public Schools who will be in grades 9-12 in fall 2022 may take free online courses for summer school using the Edgenuity platform for credit retrieval or credit ahead.

Please note: students entering ninth grade are limited to Computer Applications and Health for credit ahead.

Summer school courses are accelerated, completing an 18-week class in a compressed 6-week time frame. For this reason, although the coursework is completed online, students need to attend in person at Options High School Monday through Thursday from June 27 to August 4, 2022. This ensures they have quick access to academic and/or technical help.

For more information about high school summer school through Edgenuity, please see the summer 2022 registration form. If you have additional questions, please contact your high school counselor or secondary summer school principal Ronni Weston via email or at 360-647-6871.

5 - TRAFFIC SAFETY THROUGH SHS

Do you have a 15-year-old or soon-to-be 15-year old that is interested in driving

and getting their license?

They can take Traffic Safety Education (TSE) through the school. Classes will start September 2022 and February 2023. The only requirements are that (1) your student is 15 before the first day of class and (2) to add TSE to course registration happening now.

Not in the class yet and still want to get a permit? Students as young as 15 can take the knowledge test. Successfully passing the knowledge test will allow them to obtain a permit.

To get a license, they will still need to complete TSE or wait until they are 18 years old.

The knowledge test is offered for free. To sign up, use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/stateknowledgetesting

If you have other questions, you can refer to the Department of Licensing for steps to obtaining a driver’s license. https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/steps.html

10- EMERGENCY AND WEATHER PROCEDURES

Emergency and Weather Procedures

It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations.

Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), school could:

  • close for the day (in the case of widespread power outages),
  • open two hours late with regular bus routes or snow bus routes,
  • open on time with snow bus routes.

How can I get weather/emergency information?

Changes to the school schedule are usually announced by 6 a.m., and we use a variety of methods to keep families informed:

  • Sign up for alerts: To receive email, phone, and/or text alerts, set your communication preferences on the Skylert tab within Skyward Family Access. (Need help? go here for step-by-step directions or contact 360-676-6520.)
  • Tune to local media: 790 AM, 96.5 FM, 104.1 FM or Seattle media.
  • Check bellinghamschools.org
  • Check @BhamSD on Twitter, @bellinghamschools on Facebook and @bellinghamschools on Instagram
  • Call 360-676-6400 for a recorded message.
  • Call 360-647-6815 for a message translated in Español, русский, tính từ and Punjabi.

Please familiarize yourself with our weather procedures at bellinghamschools.org/weather.

11 - MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL

When a student requires medication at school, either prescription or over the counter (OTC), parents/guardians must return a completed medication authorization form with directions from a licensed health care provider (LHCP) to Sehome. One exception is that certain OTC medications that are self-administered do not require LHCP instructions, but they do require a parent/guardian to complete the medication authorization form. There is no situation that a student taking medications at school does not need a medication authorization on file.

The privilege of students self-caring their medications, whether prescription or OTC, requires students to take their medication as instructed on the authorization and being aware that they may not share their medications with anyone. Medications brought to school must be in the original prescription container or manufacturers labelled OTC container. Medication authorizations expire at the end of the current school year, or sooner as per LHCP instructions.

Link to Medication Authorization Form can be found here
