A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL WILSON
Dear Taylor Families,
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone is having a relaxing Holiday Break and enjoying every minute with family and friends. It’s always exciting to start a new year and create resolutions both personally and professionally.
In December, Chris Philliou organized Nocturnal Madness for our 3rd-5th grade families. We were engaged in family-friendly fun while gaining hands-on understanding of the wonders of the nocturnal world. Thank you Chris Philliou, Staff, and PTO Volunteers for putting this evening together! Read more from D51 here.
We are excited to announce Taylor’s new statement, “We care. We learn. We make a difference.” With the help and input from students, staff, and families, we were able to come up with this statement. When we return from break, our staff and students will spend some time defining what each of these really mean to us so that we can bring this to life in everything we do at Taylor.
READ Plan parent/teacher conference invitations were sent out before we left for break. These conferences will be held Tuesday, January 16th and Wednesday, January 17th from 4:00-8:00pm. You would have only received a conference invitation if your child’s teacher would like to meet with you or to review/update a READ Plan.
All report cards will be sent home in Thursday folders on January 11th.
Please check your child’s backpack for their report card and please let your child’s teacher know if you did not receive one.
I’m looking forward to the second half of the school year! As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. SERENITY
We are kicking off the second semester with two Calm Ninjas groups in progress and we will be adding two more cohorts of this group later this month. Our 4th grade girls’ Lunch Bunch with the Girl Scouts of America is continuing into this semester and we have more spaces available. All students must have permission slips on file to participate in these groups. If you need more information or if you would like your child to participate, please contact Ms. Serenity ASAP.
In January and February our fifth graders learn important skills for seeking help and suicide prevention. Fifth grade parents, letters about these lessons went home on December 14, 2023. We also sent a text that day to help make sure you received the letter. If you have any questions, please contact our school counselor, Ms. Serenity by January 10.
Our fourth grade lesson this month is about how to calm down when you are feeling nervous or anxious. Third graders are beginning their unit on emotion management while second and first graders are starting their unit on problem solving skills to help them build and maintain friendships and sustain their focus in class. Kindergarteners will begin their lessons on empathy and identifying feelings.
If you have any questions about the school counseling program at Taylor Elementary, please contact Ms. Serenity at serenity@d51schools or 970-254-4870 ext. 63100.
