A look at happenings at First United Methodist Church Sealy

This Sunday, Dec. 13: 3rd Week in Advent

This Sunday we will continue on the journey through the season of Advent, following our SENT Sermon Series. In our third week of Advent we'll learn that Jesus is God is With Us! He is not indifferent. That God, through Jesus, is relational and benevolent. Our God draws us to love through grace. And we should be with Christ and be SENT.

  • This Sunday at our 10 am worship service our First Kids Mother's Day Out will join our own children to perform special Christmas music for us! You won't want to miss this special performance.

  • Please contribute to our Angel Tree in the Narthex! Pin donations including cash, checks and Walmart gift cards to the tree. These donations, along with the money raised at the Vendor Blender, will all go to our Christmas Angel Ministry. We'll buy and deliver Christmas gifts to those in area nursing homes and retirement communities in need of assistance during the Christmas season. Want to help? Please contact Becky Mills.

This Sunday we continue our exciting new Advent program, Sent: Delivering the Gift of Hope at Christmas. This five-week, church-wide Advent study challenges us through story, art and Bible study to discover what it means to be Christ's hands, feet, head, and heart!

Youth and adults are invited to join us at 9 am each Sunday during Advent. Dick Fagert will lead the youth in this study. Mary Ann Matthys and Richard Bauman will lead the adult study. We hope everyone considers being a part of this study, one that will prepare all of us to be disciples of Christ as we approach Christmas.

2015 Apportionments are paid in full! Thanks for your faithful giving and to the finance committee for their faithful service this year.

There will be NO United Methodist Men in December. The group will reconvene in January.

FIrst UMC at Fantasy of Lights

Did you know? First UMC's Children's Ministry recently celebrated their FOURTH year of organizing and hosting the Kid's Fantasy at Fantasy of LIghts!

What an amazing day, with more than 600 children celebrating Sealy’s Christmas festival. We had camel's, nativity animals, LIVE snowfall, crafts and a large sleigh carrying families through Sealy. Pastor Curtis and Russell drove our little train ride all day!

Thank you Sealy Community Foundation for trusting us with this special day. THANK you also to the church members that support us and the SISD students that volunteer with us in Santa’s Workshop. We couldn't (and wouldn't even want to!) pull this off without you. Sealy students are THE BEST. And we are so blessed to have your help and work along side of you! -- Lesley Blanks, Leslie Ellis, Carol Oliver, Jill Waters & Shae Whatley

Christmas Angel Ministry Grows!

Our First UMC Christmas Angel Ministry held its 3rd Annual Holiday Vendor Blender last week. And it was a huge success! We had great vendors and nearly 200 people shopped, ate and visited, while contributing to a very good cause. This year, with the help of Bliss's Ann Reay, we had help from several downtown Sealy businesses who held a shopping event on the same night. Downtown Sealy was THE place to be!

We'd like to thank Erika Burttschell for letting us use her new dance studio space. Also, big thanks to the United Methodist Women and Pastor Curtis for contributing cookies. And also, thanks to Russell Koym who helped us with our electricity issues.

This week we start shopping for our nursing home residents, with plans to deliver gifts the week of Christmas. Thanks to all who help with this ministry! -- Becky Mills, Robin Castillo & Leslie Ellis

Sealy Christian Pantry Feeds Hundreds

The week of Thanksgiving, the Sealy Christian Food Pantry had 120 turkeys to give away and a bunch of other food that we have every week. The pantry served 63 households ... 497 people ... in one day! A few got a ham instead of a turkey, but all were thankful. Thanks be to God and Amen! -- Pastor Curtis

First UMC's Communion Rail Offering for 2015 benefits Meals on Wheels, the Sealy Christian Pantry and the Silver Lakes and Oaks Communities. Our church’s generosity continues to glorify God!
