A Message from Mrs. Booth...
Dear Silver Springs Families,
As 2022 comes to a close, I would like to take a moment to wish all our families a wonderful holiday season and a very happy New Year! This is my favorite time of year for many reasons. I am so very thankful for the kindness, compassion and leadership that our students demonstrate on a daily basis. I am also thankful for the outstanding educators that work tirelessly to make learning fun and make school feel like home for our students. Finally, thank you to all our families and volunteers who support us each and every day! We couldn’t do it without you!
As a reminder we want you to Rest, Relax, Rejuvenate this holiday break! We believe school breaks should be just that - a brief reprieve from school responsibilities like homework, special projects, planning, and grading. It is a time to reconnect with loved ones without the stress of school work creeping in. I hope each of you have a relaxing break full of family, fun and togetherness.
Winter Recess begins TODAY! Classes will resume on Monday, January 9th.
I can’t wait to see you all next year!
Kindly,
Katie Booth

BREAKFAST WITH A BUDDY – SAVE THE DATE!
This fun event welcomes students to bring a buddy (parent, grandparent, or special adult) to enjoy a continental-style breakfast in the cafeteria before school.
Please save the date for:
· Thursday, January 26, 2023. 8:15am-8:45am. Families with last names A-L
· Friday, January 27, 2023. 8:15am-8:45am. Families with last names M-Z.
No RSVP required – all students are welcome on their designated day.
This event is sponsored by the PTA and volunteers to help serve breakfast will be needed – sign up list is coming soon!
BIRTHDAY LUNCHES – LAST CALL FOR JANUARY!
The Birthday Lunch program has been very popular! So far this year, the PTA has had SIXTY birthday lunches celebrated!
The Birthday Lunch program is a fun way to celebrate your child’s special day and the funds raised from this program directly benefit PTA programs. Win-win!
To sign up and select your date, parents may submit a request form and a donation (any amount) to the PTA. Or, it’s even easier to sign up and donate online.
On your child’s day, you can come and join them for lunch! Some parents choose to bring a special lunch or a treat.
You get to sit at the Birthday Lunch table near the MPR, which will be decorated with a tablecloth and birthday napkins.
🗓 Please sign up for this program at least two weeks in advance!
✅ Book as soon as possible to get your spot, even if your requested date is later in the year. The schedule fills up fast!
☎️ Also, if you need to cancel due to illness, etc., please notify Kate Rundell at silverspringspta@gmail.com. Our volunteers arrange their schedule to be there and it’s very frustrating to have a no-show.
COOKIE EXCHANGE FOR STAFF WAS LOVED BY ALL
Last Friday, December 16, the PTA hosted a cookie exchange for staff. Thank you to all the families who baked and donated cookies. The PTA received so many thanks and notes from staff telling us how much they loved the treats. Here are some photos of all the delicious goodies!
JANUARY PTA MEETING, PLUS GUEST SPEAKER: MS. SILENCE
The next PTA meeting is Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 9:00am at Silver Springs.
We work hard to schedule some meetings in the evenings, but also offer a few during the morning to accommodate different schedules. Check the schedule for the whole year at www.silverspringspta.com
Parents, we hope you can join us! If you have little kiddos at home, we’d love for them to join too! Ms. Silence will be our guest speaker, teaching us about Social Emotional Learning and Zones of Regulation – so the topic is perfect, whether you come with adults or your littles.
FEBRUARY PTA MEETING AND BOOK CLUB
The February PTA meeting will be on Monday, February 6 at 6:30pm in the Media Center at Silver Springs. We will have some brief PTA business, followed by a book club discussion of "Free Range Kids" by Lenore Skenazy. The PTA and Mrs. Booth are partnering on this and Mrs. Booth has FREE copies of the book. Please sign up to reserve yours!
p.s. All are welcome to participate! You don't have to be a PTA member. And you're still welcome to come, even if you didn't read the book.
INVEST IN YOUR CHILD
What is Invest In Your Child? IIYC is the one, big, annual fundraiser that supports all the awesome PTA programs, events, and activities benefiting our school and community! Silver Springs PTA simply asks families to make a one-time donation, rather than bothering with door-to-door sales or other time-consuming efforts. No one is required to donate, and any amount is valued! To learn more about how these funds benefit our school, visit our “Invest In Your Child” page. You can donate online via MemberHub or by sending in the form to school, along with check or cash. Thank you.
JOIN THE PTA
All are welcome, whether you want to be involved hardly at all or a whole lot! Visit our Membership Page for all the details

STEAM Donations Needed
We have gotten off to a great start with our STEAM class this year! As we head into the break, we were hoping for your help. To keep our Makerspace stocked for the amazing creativity that occurs, we could use some donations. We are looking for things such as toilet paper/paper towel tubes, plastic bottle caps, ribbon, felt, and any other materials you think that could be repurposed for our projects (old CDs, cotton balls, coffee filters, etc). The kids always find a way to use whatever we have in our Maker Cart!
You can have your child drop off items to the Makerspace at any time. We truly appreciate it! Have an enjoyable and restful holiday break.

LEADER IN ME FOCUS FOR THE MONTH - HABIT 3 Put First Things First
We will focus on Habit 3 throughout the entire month of January. I encourage you to visit the Leader in Me Website for activities!
The Learning At Home Activity is below. This will go home in Monday envelopes and as well as in the Eagle Express. It would be great if you could mention it to your students!
January At Home Activity
This month’s Habit: Habit 3 Put First Things First
Activity: Color, Symbol, Image
Due Date: January 30th
Habit #3 Put First Things First- "Work First, Then Play"
What this means: Focus on what is important, schedule the important things first. Don’t be a dreamer - stay focused!
“I spend my time on things that are most important.”
“I say no to things I know I should not do.”
“I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan.”
“I am disciplined and organized.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Do your homework as soon as you come home from school.
2. Do something you have been putting off for a long time.
3. Think about your most important responsibilities. Do them first.
Great Books for Habit #3- Put First Things First
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Pokey and the Spelling Test by Sean Covey
How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss
Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats
Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London
The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone
