High School Solo and Ensemble

Preparation for the Ohio Music Education Association High School Solo and Ensemble event is beginning in the upcoming months. This a great opportunity for students to explore different styles of music, specific instrument techniques, and engage themselves outside of the general band curriculum. I highly recommend that all our high school students take this opportunity whether as a soloist or a participant in an ensemble. My experience has shown me that this can be one of the most rewarding, exciting, and challenging experiences for a young musician. This also provides opportunities for musical and individual growth. We hope that your student can participate, fill out the form below to get set up!

Youth Night

Our seventh grade band members have the awesome opportunity of participating in Youth Night-Friday, October 11 at the Mogadore Memorial Stadium. Our seventh grader's have already started preparing for the event with the start of school. We look forward to them joining the Wildcat Marching Band for an entertaining evening of music and football! Go Cats!b

Fifth Grade Band Recruitment Meeting

Fifth grade students have the excellent opportunity of continuing their instrumental music training by joining the Mogadore Band Program. We will have an informational meeting in Tuesday, September 10 at 7:00 PM in the O.H. Somers Elementary Cafeteria. Please contact Mrs. Bonitz if you have any questions and we look forward to seeing you there!

Great Start, Fourth Grade Students!

We have some new instrumentalists again at O.H. Somers this school year, our fourth graders!! The fourth-grade students will be learning the basics of recorder playing in the coming weeks!! Throughout this school year, students will learn the fundamentals of instrument playing, reading music, and working with others. In addition, our students will be taking part in a program in conjunction with the Akron Symphony Orchestra performing a number of selections of classical repertoire in March. I am so excited to see the students eager to play this instrument and I look forward to a very musical year!
