Welcome Spring!

I know, I know it may be officially spring but it sure doesn't feel that way. I'm from Seattle and it is this time of year that my parents like to remind me of how warm it is, how the daffodils and tulips are up and basically how amazing it is back there - don't worry, I ask them when they last saw the sun and smile! Be that as it may, it is spring and we are doing our best to keep our spirits high as we look toward warmer weather and many fun activities.

Our sixth grade science classes took a "trip to the beach", or brought the beach to them while studying erosion while our eighth grade students are looking into the effects of wildlife on the environment.

This week a group of eighth grade students students had the opportunity to travel to a Brockton Middle School to be part of a leadership project sponsored by Project 351 and the Boston Celtics. This project was lead by a Norwood High School senior, Surya Adeleye and is part of a bias prevention program called the Playbook Initiative. Surya brought a crew of 18 eighth graders to the partner school in Brockton, where she and her co-facilitator Deborah put on an engaging and meaningful program for 40 middle school students. It was amazing to sit back and watch one of our school leaders do meaningful work with our younger students; Surya and Deborah were incredibly poised, confident, and passionate, and truly did their communities proud (Linda Connelly, NHS). We are excited to see where this project will go next.

We have more engaging activities and exciting events coming up in the weeks to come! Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you all at the Impact Norwood Dodgeball Tournament at the Civic Center on Saturday. I will be in top form ready to take on the opposing teams!

Don't forget to order your yearbook! The order form is attached below!

Big picture

Great Job CMS!

Thanks to everyone that donated PJs for the Boston Bruins PJ Drive. We may not have beat Bourne but as a community we collected over 2200 pairs of pajamas! And we may not have won the ice cream party but 101 kids will get to go to bed warm and cozy! Thanks to everyone who helped us out for this great cause!

Paperless Progress Reports

We are trying to reduce paper use at CMS and have decided not to print and send home progress reports (we will still print report cards). Your child's progress report will be available starting today until March 29th on the Aspen Portal. To locate your child's progress report follow these steps:

Log into the Aspen Portal, the progress report will be located on the right side of the screen under the label "Published reports". Click on it and it should appear.

If you would like a paper copy of the progress report please call the main office and we can print and send one home with your child.

Check out our kids in the news! Updated Weekly!

Washington DC Updates

With only 82 days until we leave preparation are starting to heat up!

Within the next few weeks the grade 8 teachers will pass out rooming forms for students to select their roommates. If you think your child will need help with this process please reach out to their homeroom teacher, Ms. McCaffrey (guidance), or myself. We are happy to help make sure everyone ends up where they are comfortable.

On Thursday, March 28th we will have a mandatory parent meeting from 6:30-7:30. We will go over packing, fill out forms, and departure details. Students are welcome to attend this meeting as well.

Within the next couple of weeks we will also send out an online order form for DC T-shirts. We ask that all students purchase one for the trip. You can purchase one as well Mom and Dad - it's super cool!

Please note that final payments are due March 15th please contact EF directly if you have questions. If you have been assessed any overdue balances please call EF, most of these charges can be waived. If you are on a payment plan EF will complete your payments on that schedule.

Norwood Recreation Dodgeball Tournament

2019-2020 Budget Info

New Library Reading Area Fundraiser

The PTO is sponsoring a school wide request for funds to create a comfortable reading area in our school library. We will be adding a space with sift chairs, cozy benches, a rug, and other items to entice reading! We have already had a seed donation from Big Y Supermarket for $3500 to get us started! The $13, 000.00 would allow us to make over an entire section of the library for students use. Below is the link to make a donation - feel free to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like! CMS is working to make our library the place to be!
