Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term 1 - Issue 5

A word from Mr Broom.

What a week! Firstly, a massive well done to our children and their supportive families for their extreme dedication to the SATs this week. As always, we like to keep examinations very low key; after all, these children are only 10 and 11 years old. They've handled the pressure incredibly well and are looking forward to their trip to the Apple Store in Leeds next week.

The steady stream of new parents visiting school has also continued this week. It seems our popularity is on the rise following the hard work of our team to provide a wonderful place where children can learn and flourish. I feel very proud walking into our classrooms to see hard-working, happy children in all areas.

Meanwhile, I've been working hard with our admin team to streamline many of the front-office processes such as the pupil registration forms ready for next academic year. I must admit, I'm really looking forward to next Friday when I'm taking five of our children to Pizza Hut for lunch. They've achieved five golden stars and deserve a special treat.

Nursery Applications for September 2018

Just a quick note to let you know we will be allocating places for our Nursery session for September 2018 very shortly. If you would like a place, please contact the school office.

Uniform Information

A quick reminder that children need to protect themselves from the sun and when it's hot, please make sure your child has a sun hat. Baseball caps can be bought through ParentPay.

We have a small number of baseball caps available at a cost of £3.00, however our uniform suppliers have increased their prices for many uniform items and, whilst we are hoping to absorb the additional costs for most items, the cost of our baseball caps will increase to £4.00 after half term.

With the drastic increase in the amount of sport our children are now taking part in, it's only natural that the children want to bring their own balls into school. However, we've now got too many! We've purchased some new playground footballs so there really is no need for the children to bring their own to school. Please support us in ensuring that their own balls stay at home. Thank you.

School Uniform & Snack Reminder

We seem to have a small number of children who are coming to school in brightly coloured trainers. These are not part of the school uniform policy. Children should wear plain black shoes.

We like to encourage our children to have a healthy break time snack and we provide this through school. However, it seems that some children are bringing snacks into school containing sweets/chocolate. These are not permitted.

People Who Help Us

Our reception children have been learning all about the people who help us in our society and this week, we had a very special visit from the local NHS paramedic team.

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 99.5%!

Our average attendance this week is 95.8%.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
